The free games or the service? The free games leave a lot to be desired, but I haven't encountered any issues with the plus service itself. Satisfactory is probably the appropriate term for that.

Maybe Feb will have a good line up of games? They're due a good month any time now.

The service is fine. The free games on the other hand. Are massive piles of[censored]. Grim Fandango and Broken Age excluded. But owned them long before they became free. But in general. PS+ is[censored]

Okay yes, I agree, the free games this month are slightly lacking, but here is how you fix that... Just don't download them or add them to your library. If you don't want the free games you don't have to download them. It isn't like Sony is forcing you to play the free games. If you don't want to play them, you really don't have to.

I personally am more concerned with keeping my PS+ membership active in order to play games online than to get free games. That being said, if a game is available on PS+ that I REALLY want I will not say no to a free game.

I am not a Sony apologist at all. When PS+ was first announced back in 2011 I had major concerns with these free games and the need to continue to subscribe to access them.

Having said that, maybe we are all a bit spoiled. Yes the games aren't AAA, but hell they are free. We are actually paying for online access and the free games are a sweetener so should we expect better known games? MS didn't give free games when they launched Live and required you to subscribe, we moaned but were happy with the quality of service when compared to the then free PSN.

Should we not be irritated that console games cost at least 25% more than their PC counterparts, yet PC online gaming does not require a subscription to access. You buy the game, pay your ISP fees, log onto a game's server and off you go. Surely if the games are profitable for PC the same model should apply to console when it comes to the online component?

When PS+ was first introduced it was a paid service that leased you some games for free every month and a couple other features that should have been part of the console anyway. That was it, that is all the service provided. When you paid you were paying for a subscription which included leasing a few games, there is nothing free about them. I had no issue with PS+ back then as it was my choice to pay for it or not.

Now that we actually have to pay for it to use network features on PS4 only, it is an even worse service that is getting worse and worse by the month with less and less value for it. And honestly why should it, Sony locked us into paying for online access and people are making excuses for it? [censored] OFF!!!

Give me a separate service where I just pay for online access and keep the 95% of crap that you give me. If online is free on PS3 there is no reason it shouldn't be on PS4 they are both the same [censored] networks. This is what people get upset about.

@DP that's my point the games now are incidental to the online access and that is the real issue with both Plus and Gold, we are paying for online access when I see no reason why we should be. As I said PC games at a lower cost (yes I know about the console tax) still manage to provide you with online access at no additional cost. The same game on console requires you to pay for access, this makes no sense.

If they're going to keep online play monetized, I'd also prefer a separate service for online play and the game subscription service.

I generally only re-subscribe for periods when I may be playing online (such as over the holiday period) but this also reveals other issues with the subscription model, especially during sales - Some digital-only titles I'd like to purchase in the recent sale I've "rented" using PS+ and they are now listed as owned and, to the best of my knowledge, it's impossible to purchase them while PS+ is active so I can play them once it's lapsed.

While even Xbox Gold games are not strictly free, I prefer that system a lot more. I've signed up now and again to pick up a lot of older Xbox 360 titles that are difficult to find physical copies of.

Xbox Gold games are free, the service never increased in price when they started giving out the games, so they are actually free, in fact the price has come down and it is far cheaper than PS+ plus the 360 games are yours as well, so when gold expires you still own the game. There is a big difference between how Gold was done and how PS+ was done.

I beg to differ. I had to renew my gold sub this weekend as none of the games I got off xbl gold would work unless i renewed my sub.

That's a good point about Gold. That and the massive PS+ price hike in 2014 definitely made the service way less attractive.

Don't have an Xbox One yet so only ever used it on my old Xbox 360. Looks like for the Xbox One it does follow the same subscription model as PS+

My PS+ subscription expired today (just got an email from PSN), and reading through this thread is quite interesting.

I've been a PS+ member for years, back when they were only giving away PS3 games. Yes, I do feel that the games have been of a lower standard recently (especially on the PS4 front), but every now and then there are some good ones (inFAMOUS, Rocket League, Broken Age).

One one hand, if it weren't for PS+ I would have missed out on a lot of games that I wouldn't have tried otherwise, like Don't Starve. But on the other hand, I've sometimes gone 3 months without downloading a single PS+ game.

With the price having increased this past year, I have a lot to think about today as to whether or not I renew my subscription, and seeing the different opinions on this thread is quite helpful.

On a side note: does AWX not sell PS+ codes anymore? Can't seem to find them on the site.

Honestly, I don't know what any of you expected. We won't receive AAA titles, because those sell and they sell at a premium. We won't get overly popular titles all the time, because they sell. When we do get something along these lines it reminds me of a drug dealer: "First one's free." They whet our appetite and draw us in further.

When I first heard we get free monthly games I didn't expect much. It sounds like an incentive to subscribe to the online service, which it is. Nothing more, nothing less. Occasionally we get a bonus out of it.

People really need to understand the difference between PS+ on the different platforms because it is not the same.

On PS3 the free games are certainly an incentive to subscribe.

On PS4 if you want to play online you have no choice but to subscribe. This is why people are more vocal about it as now we have to buy this to play online with Sony talking BS about it being better for us when it isn't. No one with a brain will get upset because we don't get AAA titles or the next big title and anyone that does is a moron. There will always be someone that enjoys a game and that's fine but the majority of players don't and that's why people are asking for a split service, one that just lets me online and one that gives me what PS+ currently gives. Sony wont do that because they know very few people will stick with the full product because it is[censored].

This is also the big difference between Live and PSN and why people get more upset about it. LIVE was always needed to play online and was always a paid subscription, only with PS+ did they start giving people games which essentially was free because nothing increased in price, in fact it became cheaper in recent months..

By the time we get anything decent you could have bought the game on a sale, R700 recently got me 9 PS4 games that included Blazblue, Guilty Gear, Bastion, AC Chronicles, Shovel Knight, Metro Redux etc These are all fantastic titles that I would gladly keep the R700 I would spend on PS+ and wait just to buy what I want on a sale as there is far more value there and are far more quality products than what we have got on PS+.

Pretty much what think about this I got PS+ back on ps3 mainly for the storage cloud. The games were a nice extra and whenever I see I top quality game in the line up its a nice unexpected surprise really. The fact that ps4 needs ps+ for online is a moot point as I would have the service for the backing up of my save files anyway. Sure you can backup to an external, but I lose track of those so easily and will likely forget to do it myself.

Looking forward to Grim Fandango (played it on PC waaaay back). Nihilumbra seems interesting too
