Tokoloshe steals dockets: Court evidence

A public petition handed to the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Monday alleges that tokoloshes (evil spirits) are being used to steal court dockets.

The petition alleged that murder accused Mduduzi Manqele, a wealthy traditional healer, was "well-known for keeping evil creatures which collect dockets from court".

"We fear, once released, his evil creatures will tamper with the investigations," the petition continued.

A crowd of of people, who had travelled about 45km to the court, protested loudly outside.

Manqele, 48, and co-accused Roger Thusi, 30, face charges of murdering Loyisa Jokweni, 18, whose head was found in a freezer in the home of Thusi's girlfriend in Pietermaritzburg.

A source in the community said Thusi led the police to Manqele after allegedly being told by him to behead Jokweni and put the head in a freezer "to get rich".

Magistrate Bessie du Toit granted Manqele bail after his advocate Martin Krog submitted that there was no evidence against him.

Krog said the allegations against Manqele in the petition were baseless.

Du Toit refused Thusi's application for bail.

After the discovery of the head in the freezer, angry people from the area where Manqele practised set fire to his house and tuckshop.

They also burned the house where Thusi allegedly kept the head, with a frozen snake coiled around it.

The case was adjourned to March 30.

Now on to something more serious. During an over seas soccer match a injured owl landed on the pitch. After the ref stopped the match a player went & kicked the injured owl off the field! Which latter died, apparently it was the other teams mascot!

Trump: US president run talk not about publicity

Billionaire developer Donald Trump denies he is using talk about a run for U.S. president to generate publicity for his television show.


Trump, a Republican, told NY1 News that he plans to decide by June on whether to join the 2012 race.

In an interview broadcast on Tuesday, Trump said that the "biggest negative" is that most people don't think he's serious about making a run for the job. But he said he doesn't need publicity for his television show, Celebrity Apprentice. He said the show got solid ratings for Sunday's episode.

One of Trump's top associates landed in Iowa on Monday for a series of meetings with key Republicans. Caucuses in Iowa typically launch the presidential nominating season.

Trump says his representative was "swamped" when he went to Iowa.

Tsunami hits Japan

Tokyo - A massive 8.8-magnitude quake hit the northeast coast of Japan on Friday, shaking buildings in the capital Tokyo, causing "many injuries", at least one fire and triggering a 4m tsunami, NHK television and witnesses reported.

There was also a warning of a 10m tsunami following the quake, Japan's biggest in 7 years.

The public broadcaster showed flames and black smoke billowing from a building in Odaiba, a Tokyo suburb, and bullet trains to the north of the country were halted.

Black smoke was also pouring out of an industrial area in Yokohama's Isogo area.

TV footage showed boats, cars and trucks floating in water after a small tsunami hit the town of Kamaichi in northern Japan.

"The building shook for what seemed a long time and many people in the newsroom grabbed their helmets and some got under their desks," Reuters correspondent Linda Sieg said.

"It was probably the worst I have felt since I came to Japan more than 20 years ago."

Quake upgraded

Passengers on a subway line in Tokyo screamed and grabbed other passengers' hands. The shaking was so bad it was hard to stand, said Reuters reporter Mariko Katsumura.

The US Geological Survey earlier verified a magnitude of 7.9 at a depth of 15.1 miles and located the quake 81 miles east of Sendai, Honshu. It later upgraded it to 8.8.

The Tokyo stock market extended its losses after the quake was announced. The central bank said it would do everything to ensure financial stability.

Japan's northeast Pacific coast, called Sanriku, has suffered from quakes and tsunamis in the past and a 7.2 quake struck on Wednesday. In 1933, a magnitude 8.1 quake in the area killed more than 3 000 people.
Last year fishing facilities were damaged after by a tsunami caused by a strong tremor in Chile.

Earthquakes are common in Japan, one of the world's most seismically active areas. The country accounts for about 20% of the world's earthquakes of magnitude 6 or greater.

I've just been watchin Fuji news network, and all i see is people evacuating offices and stuff. Its pretty serious, but then i tune in to Hirakata radio (very far from tokyo) and everything sounds so happy and calm over there. Its so strange. Hardly a mention about the situation in tokyo.

Waves may reach the Philippines at 9:55 a.m. Greenwich Meantime, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a bulletin, advising authorities to “take appropriate action.”
