Unconvinced. I think developers can get some good ideas but this is basically just the PS3/ PSP (PSV) on a more available basis with some added features which the PSV could provide.

Want to know about Nintendo’s new Wii U console and controller? Here’s a few quick facts to clear up any confusion before we move on to the big specifications sheet:

The controller sports a 6.2” touchscreen.

Yes, you can play games on both a TV or on the controller.

It will be compatible with all Wii controllers, including Wii Remotes, Nunchuks, Balance Boards, and Classic Controllers.

The console will include internal flash memory for storage, but you’ll also be able to plug in an external hard drive.

Launches: 2012

Size: Approximately 1.8 inches tall, 6.8 inches wide and 10.5 inches long.

New Controller: The new controller incorporates a 6.2-inch, 16:9 touch screen and traditional button controls, including two analog Circle Pads. The game list looked to be quite extensive and appealing to the PS3 and Xbox crowd. GHost Recon online was one that I remember distinctly.

The two problems I have with it are the controller, that damn thing is huge and is going to be heavy. Any gaming session is going to be cut down as after an hour of playing with that thing I am sure people are going to get tired. Also if you drop it/knock off the coffee table the screen is likely to scratch or crack. What I do like is that the screen is an extension of the console, almost a handlheld, in that it will stream games from the console to the controller when the TV is off or on another channel.
My last question is why is Nintendo going with a proprietary disc again? This just makes devs lives even more difficult now that they have three consoles and disc formats to deal with.
I do like the backwards compatability as I don't have a Wii, too few games for me to justify buying one, but with this console I can have my cake and eat it too

It's all down to the first party titles which will decide whether I get one of these or not.

New Metroid and Mario galaxy would be awesome. Saw they spoke about a new Super Smash Bros, too bad those games suck

Although if a new Metroid title was announced it would be a guaranteed buy from my side.

I really like that Nintendo are trying something new AGAIN. But the gaming industry does seem to be getting very gimmicky of late... my first control pad had only the a and b buttons.

That controller is freaking hideous, cool but hideous! It's analog sticks are in an entirely retarded place and it's just too bulky.

Having said that it is still pretty cool and i like the fact that you can play the games direct too screen on the controller. I think if the devs could bring the same magic this as they did for the ds it would work extremely well.

The fact that you can use any of the other controllers with it though really make all that a none issue seeing as it comes with the console, Find it can do something cool with a game use it, if not dont use it.

As DP says it will depend heavily on the first party nintendo titles. Nintendo needs too show us what it can do and im pretty sure they will.

So overall looking too see more!

But seriously Nintendo be smart and give us a pokemon game on this thing that can interact with a 3DS version, you will sell millions lol

If rumours are true the 3rd party games should be awesome as well as the devs have supposedly had the dev kits for 2 years already. I don't know how true that is, as I am sure we would've had leaks ages ago if it this was truly the case, but maybe it is and maybe the third party devs will blow us away.
More than anything I am more interested in the backwards compatability as I have been itching to play SUper Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 and Other M for ages now.

Yeah with the strong Wii titles that came out this year and last still plenty too play on it.

Nintendo conference videos were PS3, 360

Zelda looks good for a tech demo but Nintendo's real fault at their Wii U unveiling, I thought, was the inability to show off Wii U software so that we could gauge graphics capability. I have no doubt that the Wii U can display PS3/ 360 esque, if not much better, graphics.

• Capcom doesn't have immediate fighting game plans for the Wii U, but it is an interesting platform and they're looking at it.

Maybe a TvC2 at some point

Just a rumour so treat as such, but an Aussie retailer has set the pre-order price at what converts to R4.5k. Yeah, I will just wait for the Wii price cut and get that then.

Considering its only due for a 2012 release i wouldnt read too much into that price.

But 4 - 5k is probably about right lol
