E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial is one of the most iconic films in cinema history. Director Steven Spielberg's take on an alien trying to get home and away from the clutches of a shady government was an endearing, charming, and heart-warming experiment in family-friendly wholesomeness that's absolutely perfect for bringing families together for a watch. Comcast seems to think so, and went out of their way to shoot an advertisement - but it's pretty much a short film sequel, to be honest - of the classic, and it reunites Henry Thomas with the lovable alien once again.

The Xfinity Ad plays out like a sequel to the film, and shows Thomas reprising his role as an older Elliott with a family. E.T. returns to visit Elliott, and decides to spend Thanksgiving with them. We also learn of E.T.'s own family back home. This all sounds cheesy and overly sentimental, but as a fan of the film, this put a huge grin on my face. It respects the original while never forcing its overall message in our faces. Basically, it feels like Spielberg returned to make this short film/ad, and it's the most wholesome thing you will see all day.
