‘The Martian’ actress headed for new X-Men Film
Jessica Chastain’s name has been bandied about in recent times, with rumblings surrounding her possibly portraying the Royal Empress of the Shi’ar Empire, Lilandra Neramani, in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix film.
The actress has now taken to Instagram to confirm her involvement in the production. Accompanied by a ‘cheeky’ snap taken with co-star, James McAvoy, Chastain wrote:
“Hey @jamesmcavoyrealdeal you ready for me up in Montreal? I'm gonna make you cry so hard #xmen @simondavidkinberg”
As for which character the talented thespian will be portraying? That’s still under wraps, but the safe money would be it’s the aforementioned Lilandra, a character with whom Charles Xavier himself has a very strong emotional connection, in the comics at least.
Having a talented star like Jessica Chastain involved in the project bodes well, although one only needs to look back at Oscar Isaac’s take on Apocalypse to understand that a high profile actor doesn’t automatically guarantee a knock-out performance, or portrayal of a fan-favorite character.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is eyeing a 2018 release date, and is being written and directed by Simon Kinberg, a veteran at 20th Century Fox, and a man closely involved with just about every X-Men film released in recent memory.
