@IkariX it's a good thing IDGAF about your opinion then, lol
It may surprise you to know that other people have different experiences to your own. But I know that concept may be too far out of reach for you.

As for Nexus, I don't know why you ban people that have legitimate points relating to polls you create. None of what I said was out of line, but clearly you prefer sycophants like IkariX on the forum instead of customers who have legitimate criticism of your logistics (which you make us pay for).

Nexushub has the best customer service no doubt. I have had other retailers that don't care about restocking on sold out titles but yet nexushub helped get me townfall steelbooks and control resonant steelbooks even though they were sold out. No one cares about delivery fees as long as you get the physical game in good condition like I have, especially steelbooks which can be fragile.

@DarkWingDuck

I'm going to call [censored] on your post. I've been buying from Nexus since the AnimeWorx days from about 2008. I have literally never ever had bad customer service from NexusHub. So you are being disingenuous. I don't think you appreciate the great lengths they go to, to get these games for us. But enjoy your other retailers and their[censored] service.

MrOde very good point! I'd pay extra for express overnight shipping.

HaseoVII SAME regarding FF7Rebirth (best believe I preordered Revelation though )

I am such a huge fan of Nexus Hub - no one else in SA imports the niche titles - I used to need to get my stuff from Amazon Japan/US

My backlog is so big I don't care how late I get my orders lol haven't even played FF7 Rebirth or even Stellar Blade yet, but that's just me.

I'd actually go even further and say do standard free shipping for all orders above R1000 but allow an express shipping option/add on for those that want to pay extra. I would gladly pay extra to get whatever I ordered the day after I order it.

Shipping costs on games? What's that?

I'm not looking to start a bad thread about this, I was really just curious because I misclicked the tab on the left and stumbled upon the poll (I'd never clicked it before).

I am fiercely brand loyal to Nexus Hub and I don't care too much about not getting a game day-1. I know other names like BT and Koodoo ship earlier so you get it on release, but I'd never be "that" excited that I must play day-1, life happens
On the other hand, paying an extra R150 every time you order a commercially available title does add up, and I would not blame the average consumer for trying to save some money.

I know I'd feel less off about it if there was a price match, and free delivery at a certain threshold.

I mean if I can save money, why wouldn't I?

Are there circumstances where I would pay that extra without thinking twice about it, yes. In general there's little reason to do so.

That said, touching on Darkwing's point of eBucks, payment options feel like a lot bigger point than the R50 delivery. Lot of places offering rewards, pay later, etc. Those are big pull points for customers.

For niche titles it's okay. Problem is I play mainly bigger titles. Games are expensive enough as is. If I can save 50 bucks, use my ebucks (which some retailers allow) then I'm definitely going with another retailer.

Basically if I have to choose between paying delivery or not I'm going to go for not paying for delivery. On top of that, I find my Nexus orders are usually delayed. I don't think I've ever received a game on release day which is annoying when you're paying extra for delivery especially. And often you have to ask where it is which I don't think the customer should have to do, that's part of customer service.

Does it make the game more meaningful to you?
Does it motivate you to play more of a game that you paid for?
If a game doesn't have it, does it put you off?
etc.

Pointless and full of suck
Why would I be happy that I got an "achievement" for each stage I finish?
Only funny when it's used ironically, like with The Stanley Parable.

RIGHT!

I could give F all about them. I don't understand people that continuously gun for platunum trophies on every single game they play. It's a bunch of menial tasks that the developer sets up for you.

Collect xxx of this item
Use this move xxx times.

On the flip side, if you enjoy a game, and are passionate about it, I don't see a problem with platting it to show your love.

People are too competitive when it comes to those things. it's not a competition. You should make your own joy, not do a bunch of menial tasks in order to feel you've achieved something.

That being said, this only my (rather passionate) opinion. And by no means should anyone feel I'm insulting them if they enjoy trophy hunting, I'm not gonna press my beliefs on you.

Lol pretty sure this discussion has been done a couple of times before, but here goes again:

I am on the fence about these things, some times they are really enjoyable other times really worthless.

I think when a developer puts effort into them, and does not just dish them out like free candy for doing stupid[censored] like dieing 50 times then they add to the game.

Too many times it feels like a cheap way for developers to try and get more play time out of their games. The funny trophies however are great, when used like that I think it's a nice little gimmick.

I would also like to see unlocking certain trophies unlock stuff, like with FFXIII getting certain trophies unlocked ps3 themes. Don't know why more developers don't do this.

So yeah overall they can be really cool, but most Dev's abuse it as a cheap way to extend game time.

Agree with Woofles
Achievements should come with some form of tangible reward. Skins, or themes or weapons.
Beating the snot out of Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts rewarded you with a keyblade and wet pants. You don't need some silly pop-up to go "Wooop! you beat him!"

Dunno, maybe if you have a lot of "friends" online who get notified it may mean something...?

I still can't believe there are some people that actually buy a game just because it has easy achievements, do they LIKE having hanna montanna permanently attached to their online IDs?

Call me stupid but I like them...

It gives me focus and if its a game that I really really enjoyed I like trying for the platium since it makes my gaming experience feel complete. All the platiums I have have been for games I really really raelly liked. The only exception was a psn game that had easy trophies and I decided to finish since I downloaded it.

I still want to get platium on the Dead Space, Mass Effect, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank and Ico games, because i loved them so much and want to finish them compeltely

Pointless, most games trophies don't even bring out the most of the game, they are just there. We didn't need trophies for the past 20 years so not sure why we need them now.

It's strange, there was a time when I was a really big proponent of trophies. So much so in fact that I shifted all of my gaming attention to shooting for those trophies. While I still think that it adds to games, and is a great badge of honour to show that you were really committed to a game, I don't find it as important as I used to. I do go through my stages; there was a time when I wanted to platinum every single Vita game that I would ever own -- but then the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection came along, and things didn't work out so well. I love feeling a sense of achievement when playing games, but now it comes from finishing and beating a game at my own pace, before starting a new game attempting to cover as much of my gaming backlog as possible.

They are kind of like highscores on mobile games in a way, where at times you think that it will really prove your worth. However, then you start to look around and see people with these insanely high scores/platinum counts, and realize that if you are approaching it from that viewpoint it really doesn't matter. Platinum trophies, like in inFamous 1 and 2 can be a joy, but just because my Wii or older consoles don't have achievements doesn't mean that they are any less or more significant at this point.

Oh! Teb,Do you mind, if i edit your post to the part I think is a fantastic idea--getting waeapons as a reward--what a great idea!!! Then i'd definately go for the trophy especially in an RPG, when I'm trying to get the best weapons by default. That would definately be rewarding!

I really like this idea, even if it's just avatar pictures, themes and stuff like that being able to cash in points for stuff would be awesome.

I like achievements as mile-stones of game progression (level completion, difficulties) but too many devs use them to try encourage a variety of gaming styles. I'm alright if that means "try using this weapon instead of that one" but as I figure role-playing is a big part of many of my favourite games, I'm not about to go from generally-good stealth-type character to a chaotic-evil sword-shield/run-gun character simply to gain an achievement.

I recently picked up Dishonoured GOTY and I'll never get 100%/Platinum as I'll never comfortably do the high-chaos playthrough.

I find achievements to sometimes be fun to aim for but i don't go out of my way to get 100%

I don't like that approx half the achievements for any given game are just handed to you for doing what you are supposed to.

Also achievements based on pure random chance annoy me (I'm looking at you Borderlands 2)
EG: the Meet Michael Mamaril(spelling?) achiv in BL2, he only has a 5% chance of spawning in sanctuary each visit. in the 200+ hours i've played BL2 I've only met him twice.

Don't see why people are so negative about trophies?

If you don't like them then don't pay attention or use the latest update and turn off the notification or just STFU about it.
You don't like them and think their stupid?
GTFO!!

Some people will like them and others will not... others will abuse them and use it as a form of bragging rights.

Get over it people, without the games there wouldn't be trophies so build a bridge and move on.
They add longevity to something that probably wouldn't have it without trophies.

Win?

I would be a hypocrite if i said i never go for platinum trophies or what not. For me it depends on the game though. If i enjoy a game so much that i can't stop playing sure i'll try get platinum. If i don't like the game that much i won't bother. Example Dishonored i enjoyed so much that i decided to get platinum for the game. Some of the trophies were quite hard to get where others weren't.

I agree with Woofels though. If more games gave you rewards for getting trophies(FF XIII) i would probably be more interested in getting trophies. I remember Star Ocean 3 had trophies as well(being a PS2 game which was new at the time). That game rewarded you by unlocking extra costumes for characters, add difficulty levels, music player, etc.

I think they're fine provided they outline some sort of extra challenge.
But ones you get from pure progression seem a bit like a waste to me, or anything you get by just grinding it out.

@Woofels - In some cases I'd argue they did and the option to disable notifications took way too long to get released.

I love survival horror games like Silent Hill, Dead Space, F.E.A.R and the Metro series (parts of it anyhow), and nothing ruins the atmosphere or tension in these games quite like an achievement/trophy pop-up for some arbitrary achievement.
