Ed Boon confirmed that MK10 would have new characters, game modes, and an all new graphics engine in a recent statement.
"Mortal Kombat has always been about over-the-top, visceral fighting and with Mortal Kombat X we wanted to utilize the power of new-gen consoles to give players our most intense game yet. The team has worked hard to make sure Mortal Kombat X delivers everything fans expect along with new characters, new game modes and an all new graphics engine."
The official PlayStation YouTube channel uploaded the Mortal Kombat 10 announcement trailer today, but they included some previously unknown details in the clip's description.
Most notably that Mortal Kombat 10 will have multiple variations of each character, and that feature will change the strategy and fighting style of the combatants.
The last major detail is that the game features a "persistent online contest," where apparently every battle is logged as part of some ranking system.
Fueled by next-gen technology, Mortal Kombat X combines unparalleled, cinematic presentation with all new gameplay to deliver the most brutal Kombat experience ever.
For the first time ever, Mortal Kombat X gives players the ability to choose from multiple variations of each character impacting both strategy and fighting style.
And with a new fully-connected gameplay experience, players are launched into a persistent online contest where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy.

Not everybody has a PS4
Agreed. Just got mine last night (silently jumps for joy). I have been holding off since last year but finally broke. Loving it so far. The OS still has a ways to go but it's a start.
Looking at this, and having just played Injustice: Gods Among Us on PS4, I have to say that that game in particular is very obviously an up-scaled PS3 game. I don't mind if they make MKX with cross-gen in mind, and as long as it's taking advantage of the hardware it's on.
Having an up-scaled PS3 game on PS4 is as much fun as playing a neutered PS4 game on PS3.

As far as I saw the game is being developed on next-gen consoles which means the PS3/360 will just get a port. Hopefully this is the case, it's still rather annoying as porting the game to PS3/360 no matter how bad the port is still takes time, time that could of gone into more polish for the next-gen version. As long as it's being built on next-gen hardware then I am happy.
