Avengers: Infinity War is, by far, the most anticipated blockbuster of the year. The ambitious film sees every single character introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the course of the decade converge in one epic showdown against the Mad Titan, Thanos. In terms of age restrictions, though, the film is predictably staying at a PG-13 rating, as is the case with all Marvel films. However, it was recently revealed that the cut of the film released in Indonesia will have a few minutes excluded - seven minutes to be exact.
It’s unclear what Indonesia’s Film Censorship Institute has cut from the film, or why it was cut, but according to Jakarta Post, it was to make sure that the film adhere’s to their storytelling guidelines of a PG-13 rating. Director Joe Russo, in a live-stream with CNA Lifestyle (via The Wrap), responded to the news of the film being cut.
“I can’t imagine what seven minutes they would want to cut out of the movie,” said Joe Russo. “It’s the first we’re hearing of it so we’re a little taken aback, but yes, of course as an artist you don’t want anybody censoring anything or taking anything out of the film. This is a PG-13 movie, it’s not like it’s some radical piece of content so I’m a little shocked.”
Even though seven minutes isn’t enough to really change the film, it’s still unclear exactly what seven minutes have been cut, which could provide some crucial plot and character development for the film and the sequel. It’s understandable why Joe Russo would be worried about this. The question is, will this alter their perception of the film as opposed to the full theatrical cut?
Indonesia will get the film on April 25, a full two days before the North American release. If you still can get your hands on tickets, then you can catch Avengers: Infinity War on April 26 here in South Africa, but we urge that you act quick. It doesn’t look like ticket pre-sales are slowing down at all.
