@Death - I'm sorry hear. It seems such a common awful disease for people and families to have to deal with. Like you say, supporting a cause like this - means so much to those afflicted by it.

@Tea - That's amazing news. Having lost my father to cancer a few months ago, it warms my heart to see the support for a worthy cause.

They have it listed here: https://nexushub.co.za/product/control-resonant-pid285827.html

Just keep in mind that the physical edition was delayed from Remedy's side, so releases like a month after digital.

Wondering how something like this will work for someone like me who wears glasses... Do you wear it over the glasses?

Yeah, that seems to even be a problem with the Oculus Rift. A lot of users who wear glasses complain about it not being comfortable or very user-friendly for them. Hopefully Sony will keep us with glasses in mind when RnDing the Morpheus.

While I trust that all the positive reports about the Occulus Rift are objective and pretty true, I am wondering if both that and now this will ever gain widespread acceptance amongst developers. Let's face it, without a use the best tech is pointless.

Yoshida of Sony wears glasses, and has been using all the prototypes of the PS VR since 2010, and says its not a problem when wearing glasses.

Part of the GDC presentation was highlighting not only comfort of the device, but ease of use.

The VR set supports all the major graphics engines, and indies are already starting to implement VR into their games. So that is a start, at the very least.

Shahid of Sony EU (who was the one who started getting indies onto PS platforms) actually commented that indies have already started working with Sony's VR.

Rumors have it that DriveClub, GT7 and a couple other Sony games are being developed with VR integration in mind.

This kind of seems like a rip-off of Oculus. :>

The glasses thing should only be a problem with people who are farsighted (obviously myopic people can just take off their glasses while using it).

I wouldn't call it a rip off, occulus rift only set a milestone for consumer vr headsets, there has been similar devices before but only avaliable for some arcades.

I don't really see these things taking off, unless there is a huge developer base in which the occulus rifts open source should help with that.
But knowing sony, it would probably cost twice as much...

The PS4 VR has been in development as early as 2010 (earlier if we dont count working builds of the hardware).

So no, it is not a rip-off.

I got to use an oculus rift and was pretty impressed. It's a cool idea depending on the game, think for FPS and RTS games it's something that will do very well.

Outside of those two genres though not so sure.

also, it will be in 1080p at 120Hz, meaning that games will run between 60fps and 120fps
you're not supposed to read this
my guess is that it's going to be overshadowed by Vive or Oculus, since those are the more accessible devices that don't require a specific system and are open to developers.
If they can sell it really cheap and have lots of support, I can see it not being phased out shortly

I think Oculus sure, but I doubt it will be by Vive (It may be Valve but not everything they touch turns to gold, Steam machines for example. And its not a good looking device.)

And all those devies do need specific systems. For Sony, theirs is just more limited in scope but for Oculus you still need a pretty strong PC to use it effectively in the first place.

Really it comes down to release and price.

Sony going with OLED and 120Hz (60Hz can be pushed to 120Hz with specific software librarie) are definitely strong points. IF Sony can create a comfortable VR experience, I think they will be ok. But hard to tell right now.

What you guys be willing to pay for this sort of headset? I'm really undecided if it's something I would invest in off the bat at this point.

With 20+ million PS4 consoles out on the market, its quite a prospective user base they are catering too, so price at the end of that day will be whether it has mass appeal or not. My guess would be about R 2599 - 3599 !bm

Oh I'm also glad they have made it user friendly to people that wear glasses

The current "Oculus Rift" build, sporting very similar specs, is retailing for $350. But for Sony, I can't imagine them trying to market something that costs as much as the base console and expecting many sales (assuming it'll be locked to the PS4/Sony TVs - it'll also be much mess versatile). I'd say you're right with your guess as it would have to be somewhere in the $200 - $250 range.

Yoshida says that it works fine for people who wears glasses like me since he wears glasses and tested it himself.
I'll have to test it out first though.

Not something that interests me at all so wouldn't spend a cent on it at this stage.
