It's such an inconsistent game but I mostly enjoyed it by the end (think I went with 7/10). Apparently the DLC (specifically 1, 3, and 4) are much better mini-adventures but I've not picked them up yet.
Not sure if you pushed through to the open-world-ish part and first major boss fight as it shifts from budget BioShock to an almost DOOM-like combat loop once you have better weapons and enhanced movement.
In some ways, it feels like a fan-made game with devs that tossed in every mechanic they could think of but failed to balance the quantity of each and the pacing.
