Seriously enjoying this game. Had too many titles to play over the initial launch period of LA Noire but I must say that even by today's standard this game is amazing!
Firstly, for GTA fans out there, this is not a run and gun, chaos causing shooter but really an enthralling story about a young, post war veteran, that joins the police force to prove their can still be justice in the world.
Cole Phelps, the lead character starts as a normal patrol cop and quickly ascends through the hierarchy of positions in the LA Police force. While I'm about halfway through the game it seems (currently in the VICE narcotics squad) the story progression, the underlying current of corruption and deceit and most definitely the incredibly believable facial capture technology used in the game makes this rival some of the best Cop/ detective shows.
As you progress through the various roles in the police force the game teaches you how to read facial signs or nervous ticks, that could indicate lies or a half truth forcing the player to handle the situations with almost a gut feel to pressure the suspects for more information that will lead to a decent lead or conviction.
I think the homicide missions, of all the chapters (crime scenes) so far, literally blew me away. You have to think, understand suspects the motive, the partners in crime, find and analyze all the clues at the murder scene and scout the suspect's various locations, with often frustrating dead ends if not followed correctly.
Being promoted from homicide, especially in terms of the outcome, leaves you with a bitter sweet feeling of both accomplishment and regret as that part of Cole's story was dark, intelligent and opened possible ulterior motives of the higher ups in the police force. Excellent writing and character development.
Anybody wanting a break from the normal gaming genre's out at the moment and doesn't mind a slow to progress but incredibly intriguing story, should get their hands on this and give LA Noire a serious chance to tell you it's story. You will not be dissapointed by its incredible production value !bm
I am genuinely upset with myself for not trying to play LA Noire sooner!
