@IkariX it's a good thing IDGAF about your opinion then, lol
It may surprise you to know that other people have different experiences to your own. But I know that concept may be too far out of reach for you.

As for Nexus, I don't know why you ban people that have legitimate points relating to polls you create. None of what I said was out of line, but clearly you prefer sycophants like IkariX on the forum instead of customers who have legitimate criticism of your logistics (which you make us pay for).

Nexushub has the best customer service no doubt. I have had other retailers that don't care about restocking on sold out titles but yet nexushub helped get me townfall steelbooks and control resonant steelbooks even though they were sold out. No one cares about delivery fees as long as you get the physical game in good condition like I have, especially steelbooks which can be fragile.

@DarkWingDuck

I'm going to call [censored] on your post. I've been buying from Nexus since the AnimeWorx days from about 2008. I have literally never ever had bad customer service from NexusHub. So you are being disingenuous. I don't think you appreciate the great lengths they go to, to get these games for us. But enjoy your other retailers and their[censored] service.

MrOde very good point! I'd pay extra for express overnight shipping.

HaseoVII SAME regarding FF7Rebirth (best believe I preordered Revelation though )

I am such a huge fan of Nexus Hub - no one else in SA imports the niche titles - I used to need to get my stuff from Amazon Japan/US

My backlog is so big I don't care how late I get my orders lol haven't even played FF7 Rebirth or even Stellar Blade yet, but that's just me.

I'd actually go even further and say do standard free shipping for all orders above R1000 but allow an express shipping option/add on for those that want to pay extra. I would gladly pay extra to get whatever I ordered the day after I order it.

Shipping costs on games? What's that?

I'm not looking to start a bad thread about this, I was really just curious because I misclicked the tab on the left and stumbled upon the poll (I'd never clicked it before).

I am fiercely brand loyal to Nexus Hub and I don't care too much about not getting a game day-1. I know other names like BT and Koodoo ship earlier so you get it on release, but I'd never be "that" excited that I must play day-1, life happens
On the other hand, paying an extra R150 every time you order a commercially available title does add up, and I would not blame the average consumer for trying to save some money.

I know I'd feel less off about it if there was a price match, and free delivery at a certain threshold.

I mean if I can save money, why wouldn't I?

Are there circumstances where I would pay that extra without thinking twice about it, yes. In general there's little reason to do so.

That said, touching on Darkwing's point of eBucks, payment options feel like a lot bigger point than the R50 delivery. Lot of places offering rewards, pay later, etc. Those are big pull points for customers.

For niche titles it's okay. Problem is I play mainly bigger titles. Games are expensive enough as is. If I can save 50 bucks, use my ebucks (which some retailers allow) then I'm definitely going with another retailer.

Basically if I have to choose between paying delivery or not I'm going to go for not paying for delivery. On top of that, I find my Nexus orders are usually delayed. I don't think I've ever received a game on release day which is annoying when you're paying extra for delivery especially. And often you have to ask where it is which I don't think the customer should have to do, that's part of customer service.

Game guides, useful or purely a collector’s item.

The debate isn’t as clear cut as a simple yes/no answer.

The relevance of the information is quite important as it’s been highlighted.
If I think, off the top of my head, the guides I own that have retained in their entirety the games mechanics, item/weapon use, plot (which.. shouldn’t have changed) and overall layout of the game would be:

Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 (I own 13’s guide but sold that rubbish game )
Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica
Killzone 2
Dragon Quest 8,
Jak and Daxter 1, 2 and 3
GTA San Andreas, 4 and 5
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 (This is debatable as the guide’s I have are for the original release so all the changes in the remix additions are not available BUT then again the guide was made for KH1 & 2 not Kingdom Hearts Remix)
Metroid Trilogy
Valkyria Chronicles
God of War 1 and 2
Silent Hill 2

I have the GOTY edition guide for Fallout 3 which covers all platforms and all DLC..
You could have played Falllout 3 and then lost all interest in the game and not care about the guide but the relevance of the guide still stands regardless.

Personally, I love guides but for a form of reference in future play through.
I played RE4 on the GC, loved the game and it’s still in my top 5 games of all time.
When I got the PS2 version, FuturePress released their guide and it was a must buy for me.. surprisingly I discovered things in the guide that I had never known before which were in the original release as well.

I have been fooled though as I bought the Dark Chronicle guide and to my dismay the guide was lacking any real structure and wasn’t helpful in certain ways.
For example the game has positive and negative effects you can apply to your weapon’s. Adding certain positive effects will automatically add a negative effect as well and the guide never mentioned that nor did it explain how to remove effects either which is entirely possible but working through a 100hr game to discover it yourself is very tiring.

Ultimately, what are your thoughts?

So I buy the CE ones as they look better and add in a heckuva lot of supplementary info. I like it for the added bits, the info can be useful at times to get the collectibles, but for me it is great for the extra info. I also only get them for RPGs and openworld games.

I think the original point that started the debate went over a bit too high.

For one you cannot compare a guide released for a product that didn't or couldn't change.

Final Fantasy 7 is Final Fantasy 7 the game never changed, so the guide will always be relevant. You cannot compare guides of games when games where unable to be altered to guides released today where games are continually altered with updates.

A Zelda guide 10 years ago will be relevant today as the game never changed, the only thing you can argue is whether it is needed as the information in the guide is readily available on the internet. So buying an old guide today would be really just a collection thing as opposed to buying it 10 years back when the internet wasn't readily available and it could actually add to your experience.

These days they are completely useless and not needed, collection purposes only as anyone wanting to know something can have it in a minute thanks to the internet. Guides don't get updated where as the games they are based on are constantly updated. Probably why they have to add so much extra content to guides these days such as hard cover releases, additional artwork, soundtracks etc.

Absolutely, open world and RPG's are just too big for the common man who has a couple hours a day to play balancing family, friends, work and drinking

It's fair to point out that the internet is by far a much easier, simply and direct way of getting information for games in general and there isn't a debate about that hence why actual magazines are dying quickly.

With thousands if not millions of people playing the game and discovering something someone else hasn't and posting it online is more up to date than an aged guide.

In those terms you are correct but sitting on my couch and as you mentioned, games like final fantasy 7's guide has all the information you would find online so both are equally beneficial and therefore both are on equal footing.
So all I’m saying is objectively guides are dependent on a few aspects and therefore are all different and are appealing in different ways.

For some games guides are a must!
I buy guides for GTA games.
For example the GTAV guide! I don’t use it for the story missions, just all the collectibles & random events. Without a guide, you will never find all of them.
Yes you can check on the net, & print out everything you need. Which I have done before, for the odd thing I needed to do or find. But sometimes its just too much, & a guide makes it easier.
When new dlc comes out, everything that came before the guide is still relevant. Its only the new content that will be missing.
I have the for…
GTA VC
GTAIV
GTAV
& The Warriors PS2 guide. More for keeps sake, as I had already finished the game when I got it.
