What TV/film streaming services are you using? Thoughts on each?

I had three Netflix, Showmax and via a free one year subscription Apple TV. I recently added Amazon Prime. 90% of my viewing is done by DL on tablet as it so convenient, the other 10% streamed to TV.

I guess everyone knows Netflix and Showmax. Apple TV does not have much content and it's DL sizes cannot be controlled. Technically it is top notch and the ability to buy on sale 4K films for as little as R60 (Captain Marvel plus Antman and Wasp recently) is most welcome.

Amazon Prime has far less content than Netflix but for me more quality. It's also only R79/month via iTunes account. The app is top notch.

Is Youtube a streaming service?

We don't watch a lot of TV these days (toddler + reading + gaming primarily) but Netflix and sometimes Showmax was our original setup.

Netflix is great for a huge diversity of content but their "originals" vary wildly in quality. Showmax was mostly for some HBO series but their recurrent themes of misery/violence/sex got old fast.

Honestly, given how little we watch and with every publisher scrambling to create their own streaming service (with some not available locally and some series now split between different services), I'm no longer that averse to picking up a few episodes illegitimately for convenience's sake.

I have to say Showmax (via HBO) had the three best TV shows I watched in the last 12 months - His Dark Materials, Westworld S3 and Watchmen.

Subscribed to Disney+. Had to search 'Disney + app' to find it though seeing as Disney is not the developer. Subscribed through iTunes. You can register with phone and email to browse before subscribing. I already added four shows and a film to my watchlist and none are Marvel/Star Wars all Star Channel (incl. Y the Last Man).

Mostly just Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are used in our household. My girlfriend and I use Crunchyroll (sharing a single premium membership) as well, and once Disney+ arrives locally we will use that as well.

Disney Plus officially launched today but was already available yesterday. It's on Google Play and Apple App Store. I suggest to wait a few days for it to settle down and get some bugs fixed. I had no issues but plenty complaining on Google Play.

The Disney + app is still not available on PS5/4 and downloading the US version will result in a different type of login than local accounts. Just FYI.

For sure it will not work, different app different CDN servers (content delivery). This is the one you need.

On the brighter side I see they have the Walking Dead S11 available.

App for gaming consoles coming later.

Wanted to watch Blade Runner Black Lotus before reading the new comic. Subscribed to Crunchyroll, technically I could watch it the series in the 14 free trial but since it's only R50 pm for the premium service I will give it a few months at least. Found two other shows I'm interested in. Surprised how cheap it is (R39 or R49 pm).

Disney+ App arrives on Xbox 29th Sepember.
