Sticking this in here because reasons.
So in my search for Headphones, I met with a LOT of different opinions. One person would praise a headset, and others will tear it apart. Polarizing as all get out, and makes it very difficult to get a "real" opinion.
Anyway, while I was looking at Virtual 7.1 surround systems, one reviewer just mentioned off-hand that with Razer releasing their RAZER SURROUND software, headphones with built-in virtual 7.1 chips have become obsolete.
I googled the software. It's a 2.1mb file you get from the Razer website...
Installed and was BLOWN THE HECK AWAY.
Seriously guys, this software turns ANY headset into a 7.1 system. I tried with my Analog 5.1 Tritton set, AKG earbuds, Stereo (and rubbish) Logitech Skype headphones and a pair of R20 earbuds I had Laying around. Each time I was amazed at the difference. Better and smoother Bass, better clarity, better everything. Keep in mind music is subjective, so some people might not like the presets.
BUT. The software is FREE. For $20 you can upgrade to pro, which gives you better control (or I believe Razer Headsets come with the pro version)
Of course, it only works on Pc and Mac.
If you have a moment, install this (I did it at work to) and let me know what difference it made for you.
It means you can spend money on a really good Stereo Headset, and benefit from all the 7.1 goodness of a more expensive set.
Give it a go. For free, this is seriously worth it
