The title for most beautiful film of all time goes to The Fall (2006) - but it's not really about the story, it's just an excuse to showcase these colourful, incredible setpieces.
But Kurosawa's masterpiece, Ran, is all about the story - but it's so well shot and filmed that it really makes you think about how wonderful cinema can be as a visual medium.
The use of colour is sooo good. The scene that opens the movie - in the bright green meadow with the bright coloured samurai goes is really striking. I love the mountain backdrop and the ambient sound of birds - it's just a great way to set the stage with these peaceful images and sounds before the chaos starts.
