This will be my first entry into the world of Pokemon on the Nintendo DS so I will be a complete newbie but I am looking forward to trying it out.

My main question is are all the previous version pokemon available to capture from generation 1? eg. charmander, bulbasaur etc... or would you have to carry them across from the previous games?

Any advise for a newbie would be appreciated

I have a charmander, squirtle, bulbasaur, chicorita, mudkip, turtwig, torchic in my black1 box.
Some of those come all the way from the gameboy games that ive been transferring over the years.

All you need is Beartic.

Used some breeding and created a lvl.1 larvitar: adamant nature.
When it reaches lvl.55 to beCOME a tyrannitar it'll be a FREAKING monster!!!

sigh i want to get this but i traded in my old copy of pokemon white ages ago, had some awesome pokemon on there as well

starting from scratch is gonna be a pain

So then for instance pokemon from ruby and emerald and soul silver and etc wont appear in black/white version 2 unless you transfer them? Or will you still be able to capture their base forms to train up?

@solar: actually, black2white2 has a ton of pokemon from the entire series in it. Exept maby the starters.

Was just curious... i'm one of those obsessive gamers that has to complete every side quest, challenge or whatever so i can just see myself trying to collect every single pokemon, how ever many there are now...

Don't suppose it will be the end of the world, could always trade with other players.

If you want all the starters, you should think of buying HeartGold/Soulsilver, because with 3 playthroughs, you'll be able to get all the starters up to gen 3

The amount of legendaries in soul silver heart gold truly blew me away. But I read somewhere you have to splice in order to get the legendaries on the boxes of BW2

So i found a copy of Soul Silver at a musica dude looked at me a little strangely when he asked if it was for me and i said yes .... anyway,

When the other guys and girls get together on saturdays for the pokemon card league are there any people there playing and battling on their DS's?

Maybe if people are in the area we could even help with trading?
