If the company will be revealing something in 2014 though, it won’t be at E3. Nintendo has confirmed to CVG that the Nintendo Direct “digital event” the company will be holding in lieu of an E3 press conference will not include new hardware.

I think we are just going to see a different SKU for the Wii U coming some time this year. One that's cheaper and maybe drops the tablet controller.

really doubt they'd drop the tablet controller. yea was way too soon for a new console. if they released it now it would flop just as hard if not worse than the wii u. there's nothing wrong with the wii u. it just needs more games.

Why would they not? The tablet is what is making Nintendo lose money on each WiiU sold and is quite possibly more useless to the WiiU than the Kinect is to the X1.

Spoken like someone that has barely touched the device or games. I'm no fan of the controller but that is just ignorant talk. The tablet is a better Vita yet you praise the hell out of that.

Getting rid of the tablet will ruin a few great features and games, Nintendo can't be that dumb.

Also before you go and sprout some [censored] comments rather go use the device for a while. So tired of people talking out there ass here because they can read on the internet, actual device experience would be great once in a while.

I love the Wii U controller. Battery life could be better. But I like it. I am probably one of the few people who actually plays a lot of Wii U. Great console.

...but yeah, it what separates the wii-u from the other consoles besides the graphics, people don't really see the potential with it. much like the kinect, vita rear touchpad, or the touchpad on the ps4 controller.
the "nintendo polish" on their games wouldnt sell a console alone unfortunately, which is why people expect them to go third party

I do believe the "Nintendo Polish" can sell games and consoles. And it does. I'll take a Nintendo game over any crap coming out these days

I have a WiiU (heck tried to get a second one when stores were dumping them last year), but they really need to pick up the pace on releases. Rayman Legends and Super Mario Bros are awesome games and the tablet has potential. The only problem is that most 3rd party devs don't use it that well. So far it's used as a HUD alternative and that is a bit of a waste. I am still hopeful for the WiiU and expect something to come out of E3 from both Ninty and the 3rd party devs.

Except that I play on a WiiU every single week at my friends place. Even bought him some stuff for it so as to grow his WiiU hardware/ software collection.
Waiting on MK and Smash for some gaming goodness.

So, let's cut this rubbish that 'you have not played it' because it is quite simply untrue.


The WiiU tablet is useless. I have yet to play a game where the actual controller is quintessential to the experience.
And the worse part, is that Nintendo barely knows how to make the device essential.
Donkey Kong? No use.
Mario Kart? Horn and map? Riveting stuff right there.
Smash? Probably nothing of consequence (but we will see closer to release)

We are talking big IP's from Nintendo, and they cant do anything but underwhelm.

In fact, their remedy for E3 (according their financial report a couple months back) is apparently NFC games. What an exciting development.

Get back to me when games (especially Nintendo) start coming out on a a semi-consistent basis where the controller actually makes its worth owning.

There are some good ideas with the pad nonetheless (like using it as a 2nd screen)

Until then, I stand by my position that the WiiU tablet is not that good of a device, and if losing it means helping make the Wiiu cheaper, I am all for that.

At least the PSV actually has its features put to use (except the rear pad, that sucks lol)

I think people forget (or don't realise) that the pad controller is actually part of the WiiU system. Nintendo themselves haven't really taken pains to explain this. Even the sales people in the stores (beside AWX ) aren't too sure.

For example, I think Pikmin III works far better with the old wii remote and Nunchuck, but the touchscreen still has the maps and added info that you can use.

That I have played that game on PC, PS3 and Wii U and it's horrid on the other systems compared too the Wii U and why? The tablet, especially in multiplayer.

Being able to help or[censored] your friends over with the tablet controler is great, I hated the parts with Murphy so damn much playing it on PC with a ps3 controller that I got the Wii U version.

Child of Light is another example of a game thats 10 times more exciting to play on the wii U than any other system.

Besides just because no-one is making use of it now, doesnt mean the hardware is useless. Means the dev's are both from Nintendo and third party. We live in a world made up of freaking tablets these days, give me a JRPG where I can keep all my inventory, maps and other crap off my main screen on the tablet screen I am happy.

Being able to lie in bed and play Mario on the tablet = freaking great.

The tablet is great, people just need to apply it. It's not like motion controls that barely freaking work.

New hardware too me would be a mistake. Imo Nintendo needs to release a new software update for the Wii U and quite honestly ditch the entire current layout. Get the hell rid of Mii's or make it such a way that If I do not want a freaking Mii or anything to do with that I dont neeed one.

Seriously gamers do no with to look like retarded lego with bad facial expressions, change the way friendlists and all that crap.

Also just improve the online experience, the Wii U is a power freaking machine in it's own right. It's never going to push out ps4 level graphics but running Mario kart which looks gorgeous at 60fps split screen? Yea a weak machine cannot do that.

But Nintendo's online experience is shocking at the end the day. Presentation and Online are the two area's NIntendo has fallen behind for me.

That is exactly what it means as far as I am concerned. Sure there are some experiences that are using the tablet in clever ways, but these are just far and few. I stand by my comments on Nintendo's own efforts being pretty horrible. They are doing nothing to promote the gamepad as providing experiences you can get nowhere else. After their financial meeting a couple hours ago, seems like their answer is NFC support.

Maybe that will work.

No I agree with you there their attempts at showing people how to make use of it have been pretty sad. when the technology is used properly though it is great and it's a hell of a lot more viable than dancing around wiggling a remote.

Nintendo's biggest problem with the Wii U and why it's been hurt so bad has been their own lack early support for their own console. Had this thing launched with Donkey Kong, Kirby, Mario Kart a metroid game, a zelda game and as you say games that showed good use of the gamepad. Personally I think they would be in a very different place with the console.

Unfortunately for nintendo they dont have legions of meatheads who buy their console for sake owning one like Sony and Microsoft do.
