Ironic thing. There is going to be an album for GTA6. And it will be available on both CD and Vinyl.

So clearly it's about control for Sony and Rockstar, not wanting you to own games. But you can own a CD and Vinyl. Both are crappy companies. I really want to see Sony crash and burn so hard. But the way Sony is going, it might be sooner, rather than later.

Summary on GameInformer

Apparently they made less loss than expected. Who knows if that's a good thing??

Anyway, one wonders if the Wii slush fund is running low...

I am surprised they didnt even hit the 2.8 million WiiU sales figure they had going.

And now they only expect to sell 3.8 million units in the next 12 months? Surely that has to be way low... unless they really think that none of their upcoming software (which is pretty much all of it) is going to push hardware that much.

most interesting news from the WiiU is that it seems like it shipped 3.06 million in its opening 3 months. 12 months after and it has barely done an additional 3.06.

3DS is slowing up too. Doesnt seem like Nintendo has much software for it, though I imagine a Pokemon Z will bring some life to it. Yokai 2 in Japan will also, alongside MH4. Probably not alot to offset the YoY hardware loss the device has in Japan atm.

The Wii U seems to be heading the same way as the Gamecube. Nintendo brought so many new gamers into the fold with the Wii, now they seem to have lost the love.

This

smartphones stole all the casuals that nintendo reeled in with the wii, they are trying to target a different demographic similar to their gamecube days.

sony and ms can keep their movie simulators while nintendo can keep the games where gameplay matters

However, it does seem that some of the US/Euro development houses (including several indy devs) have been beating Nintendo at their own 'game' - highly addictive gameplay.

Nintendo might own the big franchises, but other companies seem to have built up on their foundations by creating some really cool Nintendo-like experiences on Sony and MS consoles.

We have to give credit to Nintendo for some pioneering work, but I think they seem to be holding on too strong to their (Japanese influenced) roots.

You just look at games like Flower, Journey (PS) and Project Spark (MS) and the first thing that hits you is that these games would be a perfect fit for Nintendo.

hmmmm no?

Seriously, neither of these 3 games look like anything Nintendo would ever bother to try make.

Flower with the game pad? [censored] yes please. How the hell is bayonetta anything like the games nintendo make? It's still coming to the console.

Besides mooper said "games like".

Because he regards those games he mentioned as 'nintendo-like experiences' when there is nothing 'nintendo-like' about them.

Saying Nintendo have Bayonetta 2 does not really change that since he was not talking about that style of game, nor is Bayonetta even made by Nintendo, which is something mopeer was talking about games Nintendo actually develops.

That is how I understood his comment anyway.

I understood it more as in he was saying nintendo need those kinds of games on the Wii U. Not that he wants nintendo too make them.

What's sad is that the install base is actually buying games:

NSMBU sold 4.16 million copies
SM3DW sold 2.17 million
Heck even a Zelda remake of a controversial Zelda title no less, sold 1.22 million
I am even surprised that New Super Luigi U even sold more than a million units

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/sales/software/wiiu.html

With an install base of what? 6 million consoles? Sony and Microsoft would kill for percentages like that. It's not all gloom and doom, the user base is there but Nintendo's Marketing isn't. They need to get that sorted out, 3rd party support would help but honestly most of the games releasing today and generic pieces of crap anyway, but they need to try and grab hold of the more unique titles, like they did with a few of the other 3rd party games.

The Wii U will be fine. Gamecube didn't do great but no doom and gloom then. Financially Nintendo is still rock solid.

There are still some great games coming for Wii U.

You could easily argue that that severe software droughts for the WiiU helped in NSMBU adoption, that Super Luigi U is half the retail price of a normal WiiU game gave it easier appeal, and that both being bundled in an official WiiU bundle all contributed to their sales.

That said, while Sony and MS would obviously love those sort percentages they already have tons of million sellers on their devices with only 6 months of market life. There are lots of different factors regarding sales. The WiiU sales for a handful of games are very good. But with such a constricted market base most likely consisting of ppl who play Mario etc, the results are not overly surprising.
