Is this the quintessential Zelda game to play?

I take it you haven't played a lot of Zelda games? (That's ok neither have I). Apperently there is not really an "Quintessential" Zelda game, as they all differ from each other according to Specific criteria. You get your 3D Zelda games (Ocarina, Majora, Windwaker) and then you get your 2D or 2.5D Zelda games (Link to the past/Between Words, Phantom Hourglass).

Each game then has different things going for it in terms of mechanics and art styles too. So to make a possible long story short...research the Zelda game/Universe that looks good to you specifically and give it a whirl. I started with the 3D Zelda games, namely Ocarina of Time on 3DS. But you can Start with Majora's mask, or Windwaker or whatever...seeing that although the games do follow an official timeline, they are developed in such a way that you can still play the out of order without being lost plot wise...hope this kinda explains it at least

Thanks for the reply Blazen. Im looking at anything post SNES (since I have tried to get into those but juts never can). Im hoping to play and finish at least one Zelda game in my lifetime lol. but I will definitely look more into it if the series varies as much as you say it does.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D is the best version of a game that’s still unlike any other game ever made. And that makes this remake something very few remakes are: Unconditionally fresh.

Majora's Mask is a risky, inventive classic. This 3DS remake might annoy purists, but most of the changes are for the better.
