Dream Drop Distance is the next major installment in the franchise after Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. It has been confirmed that all the featured Disney worlds will be brand new to the series, although some previously seen original worlds such as Traverse Town will appear. A trailer released at a Square Enix press conference on January 18, 2011 revealed that one of the new Disney worlds will be based on The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Despite Sora and Riku being shown in their original Kingdom Hearts attires, the game is set after Kingdom Hearts coded. Nomura has stated that they will be depicted this way for a specific reason, but they will likely be shown in their Kingdom Hearts II attire at the story's beginning. The game's story will also be connected to Kingdom Hearts III, which is still under development.

Here at E3 2010 there's like a hojillion 3DS titles. Most of them are new titles, though a few seem to be 3D ports of older games. On the third party side, Square Enix was showing off a video for Kingdom Hearts 3D. Sora's back, beyotches!

So it was just a trailer so it's hard to tell, but I think this might be a port of the original PS2 game, or at least a reimagining of it. The trailer starts off with Sora and Riku sitting out by the starfruit tree on Destiny Islands. Then Riku disappears in a swirling flash of light. Sora calls after him and runs around the island (the game switches to gameplay here).

Sora runs through the island a bit, showing off the locale. It looks exactly like it did in the PS2 game. The thing that makes me think it's not a port is that Sora already has the glide ability, which he uses to soar around the island a bit.

The game cuts again and shows Riku waking up Traverse Town (the main hub world of the PS2 game). He goes into a courtyard and is surrounded by a bunch of Heartless. Then he looks up and stuff gets crazy.

The sky starts raining Soras.

No seriously. A dozen unconscious Soras slowly float down from the sky like a cute boy meteor shower.

One of the Soras lands and busts out his Keyblade. The game switches back to gameplay mode here and shows Sora bashing the Heartless. After all the Heartless are defeated a huge soldier Heartless boss rises from the ground. Before Sora can battle him he snaps awake, back on Destiny Islands, sitting with Kairi by the starfruit tree. The camera pans up to the night sky and shows the title screen, Kingdom Hearts 3D.

Graphically it looks amazing, though it's hard to tell if this is totally legit, or if even the gameplay is really a cutscene. The island, and even Traverse Town look good in 3D, and the possibilities for the game are promising (the Gummi ship levels could finally be cool in 3D).

There are a few screens in the gallery, and we'll get more news on the game as soon as we can.

Man, they now just taking this this series for all its worth. Its now just becoming a joke over at Square these days.

This isnt a spin off. It's the next installment in the Series after Birth By Sleep.

Which like chain of memories has significant place on the story

Fact of the matter is, this story has become so convoluted that they should just get to the point and go to an ACTUAL sequel. They are good games but god I've waited way too long for KH3.

My Opinion is that they are just trying to make more money off these so called "Installments" that in reality have nothing to do with the main story. I saw no Relevance in BBS or 385/2 days to KH1 or KH2. Hell maybe I will play them again and see if i can pick up something but first time I didn't.

If this really is an important part of the story then maybe i might give a damn, but i have been burnt to many times. Will wait for more information.

Terra is the Xenonaught that we see in KH1 and 2 and your telling me there is no relevance?

The fact that Terra, Aqua and Ventus are all tied to Sor and with coded?

The story is in no-one convoluted either if you play all the games with in a quick succession of each other.

Just most people havent played KH1 or KH2 since 2005, i dont think we have been waiting all that long for KH3 either if you go by the time video games used to be released.

The whole BBS plot twist really didn't grab me. Yeah is was kind of interesting to see it from a new view if I replay the originals but it was meh.

But this is getting a little off subject. The main thing I want is something that completely matters to the story such as Chain of Memories. I want to see what happens after KH2, no more prequels, just an ark of what is to come.

I dunno apperentlty this takes place after coded, but it shows Riku and Sora in their older outfits but most of the gameplay takes place in their younger ones.

Im still wondering if Sora ever left that egg thing lol.

Could be a sort of re-cap of everything before the third game.

truction of Ansem and Xemnas at the hands of Sora and Riku, Xehanort is revived. In response, Yen Sid decides to put Sora and Riku through the Mark of Mastery Exam in order to become full-fledged Keyblade Masters and counter Xehanort's threat.

The plot will also have connections to Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days,[1] and Tetsuya Nomura stated that like Birth by Sleep, "the story is on par with that of a numbered title".[2] The setting of Dream Drop Distance will again be spread across several worlds; several Kingdom Hearts-original worlds will return, such as Traverse Town, but all of the Disney-based worlds will be entirely new.[3] According to an interview, Tetsuya Nomura said the game will take part on the Mark of Mastery, but not completely, and has stated that there will be new clothing for Sora and Riku.

Only thing that miffs me out is this is linking too 358/2 days which was fricking terrible, BBS was amazing through should of honestly been KH3 but im still amped for this

wouldnt it be cool if KH3 was released with the original KH 1 and 2? (like white knight chronicles)

That would really help - i only vaguely remember KH1 and 2, haha, definitely not the intricacies, and id love to play them again.

But yeah one thing about the KH series... who on earth makes up the title names?? 385/2 days, Birth by sleep, Dream drop distance... i actually heard myself the other day telling my sister "the next KH game is coming out!""Whats it called?" "Dream drop distance" uh... right...

I doubt it Square and too cheap for that, what i do expect too see some-time soon though is an HD collection like God of War, Tomb raider, sly cooper ones etc...

And if Kojima can release MGS: peacewalker in a bundle like that dont see a reason Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep couldnt be included but with Squares cheapness BBS will come as a PSP remaster most likely.

And yeah the names are a-bit funny but again when playing the games they make sense

358/2 days, 358 days of missions 2 final days where everything gets kicked into motion

Looks like KH3D will be using that abomination of an analog stick as well

The Circle Pad expansion peripheral announced for the Nintendo 3DS alongside Monster Hunter 3G last week is already seeing support from third-party developers.

In addition to Monster Hunter 3G, other games that will support the second analog pad include: Resident Evil: Revelations, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Ace Combat 3D, Dynasty Warriors Vs. and Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance.

That list isn’t conclusive. Other games will support the device as well. Also, note that at this point, it still sounds like the the Circle Pad add-on isn’t required for playing these games. The device will cost 1,500 yen ($20) in Japan and will also have a slot for a AAA battery as well, which will be required for it to work.

Kingdom Hearts 3D Features Characters From The World Ends With You

Sora and Riku have new outfits in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance for the Nintendo 3DS. The World Ends With You protagonist, Neku Sakuraba, will be making an appearance in the game, too (he’s on the left-hand side).
