@UmarB - Yeah I was very excited to see a physical edition! (kinda been holding off playing it till this release)

Next Physical I would like is Avowed - hope they release it for PS5!

Yuji Horii Promises Dragon Quest 12 is Still in Development

Back in 2021, Square Enix announced five new Dragon Quest games. Of which, Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate was announced with the batch. However, since the game’s announcement, we haven’t seen or heard anything about the project – really, there hasn’t been a single murmur about it.

Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii has assured fans that the game is still in development. How far? We have no idea.

During a livestream on his radio show, Yuji Horii claims that Square Enix is still “working hard on Dragon Quest 12” and that he plans to release more information about the game little by little.

It seems that like Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, Square Enix might have announced Dragon Quest 12 a little bit too early. This follows the statement from the remake’s development studio, Team Asano, who stated last year that it regretted announcing Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D so early. The game was announced back in 2021 and only released in 2024.

Dragon Quest 12 seems to be following the same path here. It was also announced in 2021 alongside the remake, and it doesn’t seem like we’re going to be playing the RPG until at least 2026/2027 at this rate.

Square Enix is still working on HD-2D remakes of the original game and Dragon Quest 2. The remakes follow a similar approach to Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake, which proved to be a huge success for the series, selling more than 820,000 copies in the first week.

We know that Square Enix is “modernising” Dragon Quest 12. During the original announcement, the studio claimed it was revamping the combat system to be more approachable to Western audiences. Reports claim the combat system in DQ12 is similar to that of Final Fantasy XVI.
