If you ask most people which villain of Spider-Man's they'd like to see brought to the big screen, the resounding answer is almost always Venom. There's something about the symbiote/Eddie Brock gone bad storyline (outside of Spidey's slick black suit) that has stayed with fans, and the Spider-Man Mythos since it's creation.
Born from Eddie Brock's hatred of Peter Parker and Spider-Man, and the symbiotes rage at been spurned, Venom has gone through a lot of changes in the Marvel Universe. At first he was one of Spider-Man's greatest enemies, before throwing himself into the anti-hero camp and becoming a violent vigilante of justice before. . . well before a whole bunch of things. And with the symbiote recently returning to Brock in the comics, it's only right that we finally get to see him on the big screen. And no, I think we can all agree that Spider-Man 3's woeful interpretation of him doesn't count. Thanks a lot for that Sony!
Sony Pictures have finally thrown together a Venom movie, starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom. Originally the movie was not meant to have any place in the MCU as it was meant to be it's own standalone horror movie, it now seems that it's been officially folded into the MCU if that Marvel title montage and the rumours of Spider-Man cameo-ing in it are anything to go by. Which isn't a bad thing if the movie is a success since we won't have to worry about recasts if Marvel decided to do Venom in one of their Spider-Man sequels.
The trailer, even at over a minute long, really is a tease as it left me, even with my MCU fatigue, wanting to see more. Take a gander below:
