Ubisoft CEO Says Open-World and Live Service Games Still a Focus Going Forward

by Community Guest Writer on 14 February, 2025

Despite the failure of many live-service games over the past few years, and Ubisoft cancelling multiple projects, company CEO Yves Guillemot says that their development pipeline is mainly focused on open-world and live-service games going forward.

During Ubisoft’s latest financial call, one member asked if the executives could shed more light on the company’s future plans and how it is planning its development pipeline. Guillemot responded to the question, saying that major investments have been poured into a big pipeline that focuses on two pillars – open-world action-adventure titles as well as Game as a Service-native experiences.

Guillemot says this is what Ubisoft wants to deliver year after year:

“We have been investing significantly for a big pipeline of products for the coming years along our two verticals, [these] being open-world action adventure as well as ‘Game as a Service’-native experiences. And that’s what we want to deliver year after year.”

When discussing the plans for “next year” (meaning Ubisoft’s next financial year which kicks off in April), Guillemot shared his excitement around Rainbow Six and Anno 117: Pax Romana. He also confirmed that The Division: Resurgence is set to launch on mobile.

“We’ve announced that Anno 117: Pax Romana will also come next year, as well as The Division: Resurgence on mobile. All this is coming along well. We haven’t provided more colour for FY 2026 but we’ll have more to share by the time of May, and as I’ve just said, we have a strong platform for the future years across these two verticals.”

Guillemot says that Assassin’s Creed Shadows pre-orders are tracking very well and are in line with those of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. If you can recall, Odyssey is Ubisoft’s second most successful entry in the series, so this is good news for Shadows.

At the moment, we don’t know what Ubisoft is planning beyond Assassin’s Creed Shadows in terms of major triple-A titles. Reports claim the company is working on an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake. We also know that The Division 3 is in very early development. Beyond Good and Evil 2 is in limbo. The company is also cooking up another expansion for The Division 2.
