Two Predator Movies are Coming in 2025 From Prey Director
Dan Trachtenberg, the director of Prey, has apparently directed two new Predator movies that are scheduled to release in 2025. One has already been confirmed as Predator: Badlands while the other remains a mystery for now. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like one of these projects is a direct sequel to Prey.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell revealed that Dan Trachtenberg directed a second Predator movie (apart from Badlands) that will likely release on streaming services. Asbell explained that Trachtenberg, following the success of Prey, approached the studio and said that he didn’t want to make Prey 2. Instead, he “rattled off a bunch of ideas that were really crazy but really cool.”
Asbell explained during the interview:
“Yes, a Predator movie will have a theatrical. I’ll tell you very simply. After Prey became a success, Dan [Trachtenberg] came back and said he didn’t want to do Prey 2. And we’re like, ‘What do you want to do?’ And he rattled off a bunch of ideas that were really crazy but really cool. We’ve actually done two of them. Two are coming out next year. One I can’t talk about yet, but the other one is the live-action Predator film with Elle Fanning that just wrapped in New Zealand. That’ll be out theatrically sometime next year.”
Disney recently confirmed that Predator: Badlands, which stars Elle Fanning, will release on 7 November next year. However, there aren’t any details about the second mystery Predator movie. Fans have speculated that it could be a smaller-scaled project such as an animated feature. Others believe that Trachtenberg might’ve quietly been working on a new Alien vs. Predator project. Given the success of the recently released Alien: Romulus, now would be a good time to revisit the solid AVP concept (which unfortunately had terrible execution… twice).
In fact, this was something that Asbell even addressed in the interview, though clarified that no new AVP movie was in the works at the moment:
“It wouldn’t be in the way you think. That’s the thing. Not in the way that it will just be called Alien vs. Predator or anything like the original movies. If we do this, they’ll be organically created out of these two franchises that we’ve continued with characters that we fall in love with and those characters will combine…perhaps. But we haven’t gotten to that point. And we’re not just going to bang it out.”
