With the Nintendo Switch 2 releasing in less than two months, there’s bound to be a bunch of cool accessories coming your way to level up the experience. If anything, the original Switch has likely the best range of third-party accessories on the market, with Nintendo giving brands free rein to cook up all sorts of different controllers, attachments, and more.
One of the standout accessories I spotted for the Switch 2 is this cool Piranha Plant Camera by HORI. The brand is known for its incredible Switch accessories, and they are seemingly following the same path with the new console.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Piranha Plant Camera is an optional camera for the console, which is expected to function exactly the same as Nintendo’s first-party camera. Of course, the camera is designed to look like the iconic Piranha Plant from the Super Mario series, and instead of having just the black round camera lens on a stem, the camera is embedded into the plant’s mouth.
The neck of the Piranha Plant Camera is flexible, so you can straighten it up and even tilt and bend it around to adjust the angle. The mouth can also be opened and closed so you can close the camera when you’re not using it.
The plant part of the camera is then just a simple USB-C stick, which is plugged into a green pipe. This means you can also plug the entire thing into your Switch 2 using the top USB-C port.
The green pipe can seemingly then be used for other USB-C things like charging accessories and whatnot when you’re not using the camera. The pipe also has a 3.5mm audio jack port for headphone functionality.
At the moment, this Switch 2 Piranha Plant Camera is slightly cheaper than the official Nintendo Switch 2 Camera. It is R999 compared to R1499. However, the camera does have a lower resolution of 480p compared to the Switch 2 version at 1080p, so keep that in mind too.
It is too early to tell whether or not the lower resolution will be big deal for the Switch 2’s camera experiences but let’s hope not. If you’re looking at getting the Switch 2 and want a different camera, you can pre-order it now at Nexus Hub for R999.
