Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman is shrouded in mystery, despite having a lengthy teaser trailer release at last year's DC FanDome event. We know that Robert Pattinson will play a younger and more unhinged Bruce Wayne/Batman, but that requires a great villain to push his buttons. Paul Dano was cast as The Riddler in the film, who will presumably act as its central antagonist. While the teaser trailer provided a sneak peak at the villain (donning a menacing mask), we didn't actually get a proper look at Dano as the iconic villain. Well, that is until now, thanks to... Mountain Dew, apparently.

According to Best Products, Mountain Dew is reportedly releasing a flavour called Riddler's Brew in celebration of The Batman's release. While this was originally supposed to launch alongside The Batman this June as a marketing material, it looks like it might have to be delayed to the film's new release date of March 2022. The packaging of the bottle doesn't particularly stand out, but upon closer inspection, you'll find an interesting detail: the first look at The Riddler (in costume) in Reeves' upcoming film. It's hard to make out any specific details due to the image quality, but it looks like The Riddler is masked, hooded, and donning shiny green spectacles.
This is a massive deviation from the character's appearance in Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever, as well as his comic book counterpart who looks a lot more exaggerated and, well, theatrical. Reeves seems to be going for a grittier, almost serial killer-esque Riddler in his version, but without forgetting what makes this Batman villain so memorable and iconic in the first place. Unfortunately, the wait is going to be quite long for The Batman as the film was delayed from June this year to October, and then to March 2022 due to COVID-19 and filming restrictions making production quite difficult.
The Batman releases on March 4th, 2022.
