For those of you that haven't played Cronos: The New Dawn, Nexus has it in stock again (and no I'm not shilling). It's a fantastic game and one of the best horror games I've played in a long time. Story is also amazing and gameplay is super fun as well. It's one of the best horror experiences I've had in a long time.

Six Exciting Upcoming Games to Keep on Your Radar

by Sam Aberdeen on 18 October, 2024

    2

While the world waits for Grand Theft Auto 6 to solve climate change and bring about a new era of peace, there are still plenty of other exciting upcoming video games to look forward to in the meantime. The following six games might’ve flown under your radar or appeared as blips that you otherwise ignored for one reason or another. However, we’re here to make an argument for why they need to stay on your radar simply based on their potential. From Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to Crimson Desert, let’s dive in.

Most of the games mentioned on this list don’t have concrete release dates yet so we’ll have to wait for official announcements from the developers and publishers. That said, we’ve gotten a handful of trailers for most of them already to give us an idea of what to expect. The list is also not in any particular order.

Six Exciting Upcoming Games to Keep on Your Radar

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Since Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was revealed earlier this year, fans of turn-based fantasy RPGs have been keeping a very close eye on it. Borrowing similar stylish UI elements from Persona 5 and injecting the visuals with AAA-level quality and polish, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has the potential to shake up the turn-based RPG genre for the better. With a loaded cast of voice actors including Andy Serkis and Charlie Cox, it’s slowly but surely winning people over and it should be very high up on your most anticipated list, if that’s your kind of game.

Crimson Desert

From Pearl Abyss, the makers of Black Desert Online comes Crimson Desert, an open-world single-player fantasy action/adventure game. So far, everything shown in trailers has been promising, including the dazzling visuals and weighty combat. Originally planned as a prequel to Black Desert Online, Pearl Abyss made the wise decision to reshape it into a standalone game. If you’re in the mood for games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or the newer Assassin’s Creed games, keep an eye out on Crimson Desert.

Coffee Talk Tokyo

Moving away from big-budget games for a moment to focus on the indie space, Coffee Talk Tokyo is the follow-up to the criminally underrated Coffee Talk. For the follow-up, players get to brew some coffee and listen to all the problems of Tokyo’s citizens, including humans and even yokai. Taking a more relaxed approach to its premise, these are the kind of games that soothe the soul and make you see things from different perspectives. It’s currently scheduled to release in 2025.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

The first Kingdom Come: Deliverance was admittedly an acquired taste. Getting immersed in medival society with levels of realism almost unmatched in today’s gaming standards, there’s a certain quality about the experience that draws people in. Sure, it’s a painfully slow game at times but that kind of immersive design is why we’re keeping an eye out on the sequel. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 can address issues from the first game to make a more robust, exciting follow-up – judging by early trailers, it’s doing exactly that.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

The rocky development of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 needs to be studied at some point. Thankfully, the game seems to be in safe hands with Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture developer The Chinese Room, a studio that knows how to write compelling character stories. For that reason alone, we remain hopeful that Bloodlines 2 will be a homerun. This is the studio’s first big title and there’s potential here for a unique RPG to take form.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

Last but certainly not least is Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. At this point, it’s hard to get people excited for yet another action-RPG with soulslike elements. However, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers appears to be blazing its own trail with stylish, weighty combat and inspired locations and characters from Chinese mythology. This one is definitely catering to the die-hard soulslike fanbase but like most inspired games of a similar ilk, they always end up being highly entertaining experiences.
