Russo Brothers in Talks to Direct Next Two Avengers Movies
Joe and Anthony Russo, or otherwise known as the Russo brothers, are reportedly in talks with Marvel Studios and Disney to direct the next two Avengers movies. The pair previously directed several MCU movies including Captain America: Winter Soldier and Civil War as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Reports suggest that the Russo brothers are close to being signed on to make the next big Avengers movies which will culminate in Secret Wars.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Russo brothers are still in “early” talks to direct Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars, though nothing has been locked down yet. This makes sense as they were responsible for Infinity War and Endgame, which were very well-received MCU titles that gathered almost every hero in the cinematic universe to stand together against the threat of Thanos.
We know that Marvel Studios is no longer titling Avengers 5 as “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” after former Kang actor Jonathan Majors was let go from his role following allegations of domestic violence. Marvel hasn’t been open about what direction it will take the MCU in next – or if Kang will be replaced by another major villain entirely at this point – though we’ll have to wait a few more years to find out.
Sam Raimi, the director of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, was at one point rumoured to direct the next two Avengers movies but it looks like Disney is playing it relatively safe by bringing the Russo brothers on board, who already have plenty of experience juggling a massive cast of actors and characters. As for the now-untitled Avengers 5, it remains to be seen what Marvel will do with the overarching storyline going forward, especially since it lost former director Destin Daniel Cretton.
As with all reports and rumours, take this with a pinch of salt until we get confirmation of the Russo brothers’ return.
