Fairing through a battering storm across an unstable sea, your destination materializes at the edge of your periphery. The looming tower - your destination - only a few fathoms away, now slowly being dwarfed by a wave triple its size, seems like a dream in the wake of the status quo. The monstrous wave crashes over the tiny boat, capsizing it and sending the remnant to a watery grave... or does it? Waking up on a seemingly abandoned island, you soon discover that you are not alone. This opening cinematic quickly sets the tone, and by extension the challenges you will be facing throughout Remnant: From the Ashes. Coined as a third-person survival action shooter, and developed by Gunfire Games (Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, Darksiders III), Remnant stands out with its solid, deliberate combat, dynamic world generation and emphasis on co-operative gameplay.
The story of Remnant is one we've seen before, other than a few twists and turns, of course. In truth, the stories you will share amongst friends are what will keep the game firmly lodged in your hippocampus. You see, the talented folks at Gunfire Games made sure that each player will possibly experience their latest game differently. The way they do this is by dynamically generating worlds, quest opportunities, events, enemies and boss encounters.
We quickly discovered that, theoretically, we experienced two very different versions of the same game.
Seeing as this is a game where even low-level grunts can kill you, your choice of gear matters.
