Notebooks used to be a hulking piece of equipment that you had to lug around, but over the years, manufacturers have strived to make their notebooks slimmer, sleeker, yet more powerful. Asus has pushed this in their ZenBook line-up, and with each generation, they have improved. The latest Asus ZenBook 13 is not only their smallest and most elegant iteration yet - it is also the worlds smallest 13" notebook.
The Asus ZenBook 13 UX333 is powered by an 8th generation Intel Core i7-8565U processor, an Nvidia GeForce MX150 offering 2GB of GDDR5 VRAM, 16GB of 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory, with a 1TB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD. The ZenBook 13 is the world's most compact laptop, as we said before, and is 14% smaller than its previous iteration.
It features a four-sided frameless NanoEdge display, giving you up to 95% screen-to-body ratio, with a 13.3" LED-backlit 1920 x 1080p display, with anti-glare. The ultra-slim bezel design comes in at just 2.8mm on the sides, and a 3.3mm bottom bezel, and features a 178-degree viewing angle.
The Asus ZenBook 13 now comes with the innovative NumberPad technology, that combines the touchpad with the Num pad often missing from compact notebooks; with a simple tap of the top-right-corner, you can swap between the illuminated, glass-covered Num pad or standard touchpad. The keyboard features just 1.4mm of key travel, alleviating a tonne of work off of your fingers for easy typing, and is backlit for working in dimly lit areas.
The Asus ZenBook 13 features a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C, USB 3.1 Type A, USB 2.0, HDMI port, and a Micro SD Reader. The ZenBook 13 also features a 50Wh 3-cell Lithium-polymer battery for up to 14 hours of usage. Finally, the ZenBook 13 measures 302x189x16.9mm, and is super-light at just 1.09kg, making it the world's most compact, and lightest, laptop to feature a dedicated graphics card.
The Asus ZenBook 13 comes in two beautiful colours: Royal Blue and Icicle Silver, and starts at $849,99, so expect a R15,000+ retail price tag.
Starting off, we open the notebook to a beautiful Royal Blue colour, as the notebook raises off the desk, and the Asus ZenBook logo pops off of the Rose Gold trim. As the notebook is so small, you expect a long wait to boot up and load the OS, but before you can step away, you're in.
The feeling of elegance, despite the small size, is a unique experience each time you use the ZenBook 13. The beautiful NanoEdge display emphasizes the ultra-slim bezel design, and drives home the hidden power behind the small form factor.
