PS5 Price Hike Announced For Europe, Australia, Africa and New Zealand
Sony has confirmed that in order to combat global economic trends, the PS5 is getting a price hike in certain regions.
In a news post, the company claims that the ongoing tariffs, high inflation, and fluctuating exchange rates have resulted in the latest price increase for the PS5 hardware. As a result, countries in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand will see their console prices go up starting today.
At the moment, Sony has only revealed a number of direct numbers to crunch at. For example, in the UK, the PS5 Digital Edition is seeing an increase of £40, and in Europe, €50.
The company claims that the price of the PS5 Disc Model console is increasing but not in all regions. The post reference only applies to regions in the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. So we don’t know if other countries will see a price hike on that hardware.
In addition to the price increase, Sony is also dropping the price of the PS5 Disc Drive attachment. The drive usually retails for the ridiculous price of £99.99 / €99.99 / AUD $149.95 / NZD $169.95 but is now dropping to £69.99 / €79.99 / AUD $124.95 / NZD $139.95.
We haven’t heard anything about the South African market at this rate. The news post states “select markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), Australia, and New Zealand,” so there’s a very good chance our console prices will go up, but I am waiting on word of the new price.
In the meantime, here are the new prices for PS5 consoles and the PS5 Disc Drive. Keep in mind that these price changes don’t affect the PS5 Pro console.
