Developer Hello Games is once again delivering another free massive update for No Man’s Sky titled Worlds Part 1. The overhaul offers completely upgraded planets, fauna, wildlife, weather cycles, visuals and so much more. The “Worlds” update is billed as “complete refresh of the universe” of the game, finally bringing the beloved spacefaring adventure title into the modern era.
Hello Games director Sean Murray began teasing the new No Man’s Sky update earlier this week which many fans mistakenly assumed was related to the studio’s next game, Light No Fire. It turned out to be another update for No Man’s Sky but one that’s a lot bigger than anybody anticipated. Worlds Part 1 drastically overhauls the game’s visual details as shown in the reveal trailer. Storms look fantastic thanks to the new weather cycles and textures have been sharpened and improved on everything including large bodies of water, oceans and lakes (now with waves!).
Beyond that, entire planets have also received major facelifts in presentation, now offering much livelier environments and ecosystems that up the immersion. New creatures are also being added into the game to greatly increase the amount of extraterrestrial life you can find on each planet. Finally, Hello Games is adding “combat-focused Expedition” to No Man’s Sky that allows players to battle dangerous aliens with a mech.
Sean Murray explains:
“No Man’s Sky is a game about exploring, so how planets look and feel is important, but what you do on those planets is something we want to add to with every update. Expeditions have become a huge part of how folks play the game. We’ve made something very Starship Troopers inspired with this one, it’s really different and it takes you on a tour of some of these cool new planets. Everyone is battling against bugs together, and progress is community driven. There’s a new mech with heavy armour and a cool flamethrower arm. And you are going to need it!”
