The Switch launches on the 3rd of March, and the console finally has a price: R5599. This news also comes alongside Nintendo’s exclusive launch alignment with two resellers.
Nintendo have partnered with B.T. Games and Takealot.com for the Switch launch in South Africa. This means that for the launch edition of the console, or the first allocation of stock that we will be getting in the country, the console will be exclusively available through these two retailers.
There are many reasons why companies could choose to have launch alignments such as these. One possible reason could be the limited number of units that will be shipped to the country. It’s not a lack of desire on the part of other retailers, but rather the question of availability of stock.
AWX are reassuring their customers that they will keep them posted on the wider availability of the Switch console, its accessories, and its software. Those customers who have preordered the Switch through AWX will retain their preorder until the retailer receives an allocation of stock. There is no date on when the second allocation will be.
In today’s world, exclusivity deals and launch alignments such as these are run of the mill. However, if consumers have concerns about stock availability or distribution, they should raise their concerns.
