Next Mass Effect Director Suggests Playing Lair of The Shadow Broker DLC
Michael Gamble, the project director behind the next Mass Effect game from BioWare, recently suggested that new players experience Mass Effect 2‘s Lair of The Shadow Broker DLC ahead of the new entry. Now that Dragon Age: The Veilguard is out, BioWare recently confirmed that it’s shifting its full attention to Mass Effect going forward, meaning development on the highly anticipated new title will kick into high gear.
Speaking on Twitter/X, Gamble expressed his surprise at seeing so many new Mass Effect fans appearing on the site – no doubt due to the game’s steep discounts during Black Friday. “So many new Mass Effect fans popping up in my mentions,” he said. “Maybe because it’s like 5 bucks or something. Awesome to see. There’s like an extra game worth of DLC content in there but make sure you play Lair of The Shadow Broker.”
Lair of The Shadow Broker was a DLC for Mass Effect 2 which added a lengthy quest revolving around Commander Shepard helping Liara T’Soni take down the elusive Shadow Broker. Some spoilers ahead but at the end of the DLC, Liara becomes the new Shadow Broker, putting her in a very powerful position of trading secrets across the galaxy.
The fact that Gamble is recommending playing this specific DLC might give us a hint into the plot of the next Mass Effect game. After all, the only recognisable figure we saw in the reveal trailer was Liara and since the game’s events take place an unspecified time after Mass Effect 3, it’s safe to assume that Liara is still the Shadow Broker and doing her part in the galaxy. This is all just speculation for now, naturally.
