Netflix has announced a new animation series to begin in September 2018, The Dragon Prince. This announcement comes just after the announcement of a new animated series being requested by the online streaming giant, as well as the renewal of two short, but successful anime series, Castlevania and Aggretsuko. What a big year for Netflix!
The story follows a fantasy adventure of two princes forging an unexpected bond with an elfin assassin that was sent to kill them. The three then set off on an epic quest to bring peace to their lands in the midst of war.
The series was co-created by Aaron Ehasz, the writer of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Justin Richmond, best known as a game developer on Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and game director on Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. Together, these two gentlemen founded multimedia studio Wonderstorm, which is producing the series and possibly a related game.

Comic Con International will see a panel for The Dragon Prince this Saturday, the 21 July 2018, where we will get a sneak peek into this new epic fantasy, with a Q&A session after. The panel will be hosted by Aaron Ehasz, Justin Richmond and Giancarlo Volpe, who was also very involved in the Avatar: The Last Airbender animation series.
While the live-action of Avatar: The Last Airbender left much to be desired (Shyamalan, why? - Ed), the anime-inspired animation series is one of my favourites of all time, as well as the spinoff, The Legend of Korra. I look forward to seeing what Aaron Ehasz has in store for us!
A conundrum of killing all the things, but also into unicorns and glitter pens. Wears her allegiance on her sleeve. Lok’tar ogar!
