A new report claims that multiple Fallout games are currently in development at Bethesda. Since the success of Amazon’s live-action Fallout series rejuvenated interest in the post-apocalyptic video game franchise, there’s been a demand for new or remastered Fallout games, especially since the last game in the franchise was 2018’s panned multiplayer game, Fallout 76.
In a recent Friends Per Second podcast hosted by Lucy James, SkillUp and Jake Baldino, Video Games Chronicle journalist Jordan Middler claimed that multiple Fallout games were currently in development. “There are multiple Fallout projects in development,” he said, adding that one of them is “that one that I’m sure you’re all wanting.” Middler could be referring to the leaked Fallout 3 remaster which was mentioned as part of leaked Bethesda documents during a previous court case with the FTC.
Middler didn’t mention anything more than that. It’s no surprise that more Fallout games are on the way considering how popular the franchise has gotten since the live-action TV series opened audiences up to the video games. However, we could be waiting a few more years until the Fallout 3 remaster sees the light of day. Reliable leaker NateTheHate previously stated that “it will be a while” before we see the remaster.
In the meantime, the second season of Amazon’s live-action series is set to premiere this December. It will mostly be set in New Vegas, the location used in 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas from Obsidian Entertainment (generally regarded as the best Fallout game ever made).
Bethesda Game Studios is hard at work on The Elder Scrolls 6 as its first priority before Fallout 5. The fantasy RPG was announced back in 2018, though the studio had since released the sci-fi RPG Starfield. Early development on The Elder Scrolls 6 effectively began in August 2023. It might be a few years, some even speculate another decade, until we see a new mainline Fallout game. Whatever Bethesda is working on now, it’s likely remasters or possible smaller titles.
