If you’re looking into buying a new headset, it may be worth waiting a few months to get your hands on Microsoft’s new Xbox Stereo Wired Headset. With the minimalistic design language of Microsoft’s Series X/S consoles, the tech giant unveiled a refreshed Xbox wired stereo that serves as an alternative option to its feature-rich wireless headset that launched earlier this year. The wired stereo headset may be missing a few features, in comparison to the wireless headset, but it still retains its iconic design.

Coming in at R1,199, the stereo headset mirrors a lot of what you can get with the wireless version. You can twist the dial on the outside of the right ear cup, allowing you to adjust the volume. There is also a mute button on the rear of the flexible microphone. The headset connects to the Xbox controller via a 3.5mm cable, which is rather tastefully coloured in a green hue. Thankfully, this means that the headset can support any devices that use the 3.5mm audio jack. Microsoft says that the headset supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Windows Sonic. The software company goes on to say the headset features “clean mid and high-frequency performance with strong bass”.
The wired version doesn’t seem to feature the game/chat audio mixing dial, but that’s just a small compromise. We will have to see how they hold up in our full review. But the promise of great audio quality could make this a must-buy for Xbox fans looking into a decent pair of entry-level headsets. For those interested, the stereo headset is set to launch on September 21st, 2021, retailing at R1,199.
