Since the last Marvel Ultimate Alliance game, Marvel has drastically grown in popularity in the ten years. You instantly get a sense that the roster in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order reflects the years that Marvel has spent digging into its archives for the live-action adaptions.
The diversity of Ultimate Alliance’s roster has always been the strongest aspect of the game, and that is very much present in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. Characters immediately synergize and perform some intense choreographed attacks brimming with personality that leaves you coming back for more.
Not much has changed on the surface of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. Much like the games before it, Ultimate Alliance 3 is a blend of hack and slash and an isometric action-RPG, featuring four playable characters that you can between at your earliest convenience. While many of the characters are familiar, there are some picks in the roster that may not seem familiar. You have Crystal from The Inhumans and the monster hunting Elsa Bloodstone, which seemed like the only unfamiliar characters in my playthrough so far.
As for the story, Ultimate Alliance 3 follows right off of the heels of the hype created by the Infinity Stones. The Black Order wants to get the Infinity Stones for Thanos, and it’s up to you and your team to stop the various villains that try and stop you from saving the galaxy. The story isn’t as intense as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but all of the characters mimic their comic counterparts with remarkable attention to detail.
