The PlayStation Showcase a couple of weeks ago had a number of exciting reveals, but one studio in particular stole the show - and that's saying a lot considering we finally got our first look at God of War Ragnarok. As one of Sony's hardest-working first-party studios, Insomniac Games arrived to reveal that they were working on two new AAA games hot off the heels of both Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Insomniac Games were always around in Sony's vast history of PlayStation exclusives since the days of the PS2. Having developed the Ratchet & Clank series as well as Resistance, Insomniac were prepared for an acquisition by Sony that somehow never came for years. That was, until last year when Sony finally made the announcement that they were acquiring Insomniac, thus cementing them in their first-party line-up - and a naturally fitting one.
PS4's excellent Marvel's Spider-Man catapulted Insomniac Games into the spotlight as one of the best studios producing exclusives for PlayStation, and this was only further cemented with the release of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart - which were released only months apart from each other. They took the gaming world by surprise when they also unveiled that they were working on both the anticipated Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and - to everyone's surprise - Marvel's Wolverine.
Needless to say, they've been putting in the work and the reception to their name being attached to a project now conjures the same amount of excitement and praise that Naughty Dog once held (arguably they still do, though they have a notably divisive reception to deal with after The Last of Us Part II). Insomniac Games seem to be headlining a couple of the biggest upcoming games for the PS5, and are aligning themselves to be Sony's powerhouse studio this generation.
