Despite the spectacular failure of Concord, Sony isn’t quite done pushing live service games as Horizon Online is reportedly next on the table for developer Guerrilla Games. PlayStation recently announced Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, an enhanced version of the 2017 single-player action/adventure game for PS5 and PC. The Horizon IP will also dabble in the multiplayer space, according to a new report.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier revealed this much in a recent Spawn Wave podcast appearance, stating that Horizon Online is the next project from Guerrilla Games and not a new entry in the single-player Horizon franchise. “And their plan…I mean, Horizon Online is their next product, not the third single-player game, looks like. So, that one may be ways off,” said Schreier, confirming that the third entry in the Horizon franchise is quite far off from release.
Schreier addressed Sony’s continued push into the live service games market, adding:
“Yeah, I mean like, Sony-PlayStation’s like live service initiative was no joke, everybody was like…it’s live service games all around. Horizon is one of the few ones that hasn’t been cancelled or hasn’t come out and flopped the way Concord did and so…yeah, a lot of questions. A lot of people are working on that.”
