Helldivers 2 Cuts 131GB of Storage From PC Version Thanks to Nixxes
Helldivers 2 has seemingly sorted out its PC storage issue, and the game now takes up a lot less space on the platform. “A lot” might even be an understatement because Helldivers 2 has cut a whopping 100GB+ off its installation size on PC.
According to the Steam page, Helldivers 2 has gone from being 154GB in storage to just 23GB in total. That means the game file size has dropped by an impressive 131GB. Arrowhead Studios shared the news and thanked Nixxes for the help in achieving this storage reduction.
The post claims that the storage drop isn’t changing the game’s performance by any means. There might be a slight increase in loading times, but the studio says it is a “second at most”. The bulk of the loading times now comes from the level generating system rather than loading assets and duplicating them, which was where the storage issue came from too.
The news says:
“The longer term goal has always been to bring the PC installation size much closer in line with the console versions. We are happy to report that, thanks to our partners at Nixxes, we have reached that goal much sooner than expected. By completely de-duplicating our data, we were able to reduce the PC installation size from ~154GB to ~23GB, for a total saving of ~131GB.”
Keep in mind that the current public build of Helldivers 2 doesn’t have the fancy slim version of the game available just yet. If you want to install the 23GB version, you need to opt-in to the technical public beta by clicking on Manage in your game. However, when the update rolls out to the public, all versions of the game will be updated and, at the same time, reduced in file size.
Helldivers 2 is available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC.
