Solo developer Allan “Hederlunden” Hedlund has revealed his latest horror game, Eyes Never Wake, which has a very interesting gameplay feature. The upcoming game uses your own webcam as part of the gameplay experience, allowing a monster to see and hear you in real life.

Eyes Never Wake is currently in development for PC via Steam and puts players in rather uncomfortable scenarios. According to the game’s description, the monster’s AI in the game takes full advantage of some real-world tech. Specifically, it’s able to see you through your webcam and hear you through the microphone. When players are confronted by this terrifying creature, they physically have to duck beneath the camera in real life to avoid the glare of the monster chasing them while also trying to remain as quiet as possible.



Yes, the game states that it simply uses your webcam for gameplay purposes only and doesn’t collect images, video or data to be sent anywhere. Of course, with paranoia online running at an all-time high, there’s also an option to toggle this feature off if you don’t want to risk it or just can’t stomach the idea of a video game monster physically being able to see and hear you. It’s a pretty cool feature, though we wonder if it will actually catch on or just become an isolated gimmick for Eyes Never Wake.
