There’s no denying that the Call of Duty franchise has seen some fantastic games in the past. Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare trilogy set a very high bar for all modern war shooters to come, while Advanced Warfare blasted off into the far future with futuristic combat and weapons. However, the one series that fans seem to hold most dearly, apart from Modern Warfare, is the excellent Black Ops games by Treyarch. Despite veering away from the established Call of Duty formula in many ways, it brought a refreshing change of pace and introduced us to some of the best single-player and multiplayer campaigns in the entire franchise. So what makes these games so special?
It may have birthed a meme, but this particular, intriguing narrative solidified the Black Ops games as the prime single-player campaigns of its time.
It also featured some of the best multiplayer maps, expertly designed to accommodate any and all playstyles.
I feel Black Ops III needed to happen as it was clear that the series was running out of ideas.
