BioShock 4 has finally received some news but it’s not exactly positive. A recent leadership shake-up at developer Cloud Chamber recently saw studio head Kelley Gilmore leave their role while creative director Hogarth de la Plante has shifted over to a publishing position. Additionally, a remake of the first BioShock game was reportedly in development but those plans have fallen through as the game has apparently been cancelled.
As reported by Bloomberg, the recent leadership changes at Cloud Chamber followed a recent failed internal development review of BioShock 4 by executives at 2K Games. Executives said the game’s narrative was “an area that was particularly in need of improvement” and will be completely revamped. Bloomberg’s sources also added that a remake of the first BioShock was cancelled earlier this year, though no reasons were provided for its cancellation.
2K Games reportedly held an all-hands meeting where Cloud Chamber developers were told the studio “needs to become more agile and efficient”, leading some to fear that layoffs could follow as a result of BioShock 4’s development setbacks.
A spokesperson for 2K Games confirmed the leadership changes and said they’re “fully committed to ensuring we deliver a BioShock game that exceeds the lofty expectations of our fans.” 2K also said in a recent statement:
“We are working hard to set BioShock up for the best possible future. Right now, we have a good game, but we are committed to delivering a great one. We are working closely with leadership at the studio to define this path.”

A remake of Bioshock 1 seems mostly pointless as even the X360/PS3 original holds up just fine and you have the X1/PS4-gen console remasters still accessible.
