Will keep an eye out then.

I'm really loving the Vampire Files. Discovered it many years ago but could only get my hands on the whole series recently with reprints.

Basically it's a vampire, gangsters and a private eye in 1940's Chicago. Awesome stuff.

From 'The Untold History of Television' series - The Wire. Pretty interesting backround to the series including which characters were based on real people etc.

The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching by Thich Nhat Hanh. Not a novel exactly but a really good read. It’s like a warm hug for your brain

THE HOMERIC HYMNS
A collection of ancient Greek poems dedicated to the major Greek deities. Currently reading the hymn to Apollo.

A HISTORY OF WESTERN PHILOSOPHY - BERTRAND RUSSELL
I've slowly been unpacking this tome since Jan...
Written by the intimidatingly brilliant English philosopher Bertrand Russell, the book offers a comprehensive, digestible, and at times humorous overlook of the entire development of the Western philosophical discipline.
It begins at the beginning with the pre-Socratics and Atomists in ancient Greece.

THE BOOK OF IMAGINARY BEINGS - JORGE LUIS BORGES
A highly interesting catalog of fictional creatures that are well known, deeply obscure, and everything in between.

Just finished Gothic Wars #1 Execution Hour by Gordon Rennie.

Very good, early Warhammer 40K book on the exploits of Imperial Navy officer Captain Leoten Semper and his Dictator class cruiser His Divine Majesty's Ship Lord Solar Macharius. Nice change from other Warhammer 40K books. Saves women and children too which is a nice change for the Grimdark.

Finished The Fortunes of Africa: A 5000-year History of Wealth, Greed, and Endeavour by Martin Meredith. Brilliant book - slavery and ivory the main export since 3,000 BC.

Solomon Kane Complete Collection - most I had read before but the vampire one was new, wow. Vampires don't come out during the day due their mortal enemy, the vulture (Most stories are set in Africa if you've only seen the film).

and this, started poorly but ended decent.

Great read and laugh, been in my wishlist for years. Sudden price drop 86% off. Loved the bit where the author, a two times Pulitzer winner, was ready to use this to try and convince publisher to do the book. He didn't need to, the asnwer was yes straight away. Old dog people are everywhere he said, sometimes in the least expected place. Also the bit where the aunt who got a care dog for depression ten years ago tells the rest of the family she can't attend family functions because 'we' are busy that weekend. Everyone laughs because they know we is her and her old care dog.

Interesting, thought-provoking, and highly important in the canon of western philosophy.

It's written in the form of a dialogue between Socrates (Plato's teacher) and a bunch of friends, wrestling with the topic of what an ideal State would be like. The arguments, as well as the logical deductions, are clearly written and shouldn't be difficult to follow.

Would recommend to anybody who wants to dip their toe into philosophy, or wishes to explore topics such as virtue and vice, justice and injustice, at a deeper level.

I've been reading "A journey of red and black"
Excellent vampire novel(s).

Got of Royal Road. https://www.royalroad.com/home

Where people can self-publish their books until they get published. It's pretty much an ENDLESS amount of fiction. If you like Indie games, why not try Indie books? Be warned though, it's a slippery slope and it's the reason my Kindle is the most used piece of tech in my house, more than PS5 and pc combined

Also look out for Dungeon Crawler Carl

Finished Robert E Howard's Bran Mak Morn stories - terrific.

The Heroic Legends Series - Bran Mak Morn: Red Waves of Slaughter - sequel to Dark Man. Very short story bulked with filler. Highway robbery for such a mediocre add on.

Robert E Howard mentions in a 'set in the modern times (1920s) section' his favourite three horror classics - as I was reading one (Netflix) I added the other two (one already read before) for a comparison.

Call of Cthulhu is still an incredible read. So far ahead of it's time.
The Fall of the House of Usher - great story but not my favourite Edgar Allan Poe work (Netflix series inspired by it).
The Novel Of The Black Seal - heard of Arthur Machen but this was new. It was also quite excellent. Will look for more of his stuff.

Great reading recommendation from such an esteemed individual.
