A thread dedicated to Nintendo NX's news and rumors:

Official Press Release from Nintendo
http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/nintendo-provides-updates-on-mobile-nx-and-the-legend-of-zelda

NX: Nintendo previously announced that it would release more information about its next system, code-named NX, this year. As the first announcement of any NX information, Nintendo confirmed that NX is scheduled to launch in March 2017. NX will not make an appearance at the upcoming E3 video game trade show in Los Angeles in June and will be unveiled later this year.

Latest Rumored News - Eurogamer

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-07-26-nx-is-a-portable-console-with-detachable-controllers

"Nintendo's upcoming NX will be a portable, handheld console with detachable controllers, a number of sources have confirmed to Eurogamer.

On the move, NX will function as a high-powered handheld console with its own display. So far so normal - but here's the twist: we've heard the screen is bookended by two controller sections on either side, which can be attached or detached as required.

2
Then, when you get home, the system can connect to your TV for gaming on the big screen.

A base unit, or dock station, is used to connect the brain of the NX - within the controller - to display on your TV."

Keep in mind Eurogamer ended up being spot on with Neo and Scorpio.

The Digital Foundry article linked by Eurogamer is very interesting. They speculate that the Tegra 1 chip in the dev unit is just a placeholder for the announced, but unseen follow up chip, can't remember the name but don't think it's "tegra 2". Their tests on the Tegra 1 are that it is very powerful, not PS4/Xb1 powerful, but able to consistently output 1080p @60fps.

The concept is inetersting, but I wonder if 3rd party support will return to Ninty. Is a dev going to build BF1/CoD/Assassin's Creed that can run on the NX and the NEO AND the Scorpio? Oh yes and the PS4 and XB1. Given that this will be less powerful than these consoles I don't see it. Yeah it would be great to be able to play the next AAA title on the go and at home, but in reality will anyone other than Ninty and its forst party studios actually bother to investigate how to make this a reality?

I'm just interested in the whole cartridge thing.
Some of todays games use up to 50GB. How will they port that to a 30 odd GB cartridge?

@KF well they won't will they? That's why I don't see huge third party and multi platform support for this as it is been reported now. It's an odd decision, if accuarte, as it is a decently powered system with an intriguing premise, basically a handheld that plugs into your TV, but the questions around it make it seem like too unusual a system.

Hopefully once Ninty start talking about it we will get a clearer picture, I think that there is enough cause for optimisim to believe that yesterday's "leak" isn't the full picture and that there is more to come. I wouldn't be surprised if that docking station is more than that and is another more powerful co-processing unit to bring the couch experience up to current gen specs.

Cartridges could be awesome, can easily hold more than a bluray drive. My biggest issue with this would be BC, Nintendo are known for giving us BC on their devices, this may be the first one that has nothing since the Gamecube.

Yeah was reading up on carts and they can certainly hold more than 32GB now. They have the added advantage of no moving part, so that helps with portable games and they have faster access times than discs since they are solid state memory. Carts are starting to make more and more sense now

Problem is it gets expensive after 32GB

32GB should be enough though if properly optimized. RoTR, Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 were all less than 30GB.

Interesting article from MCVUK the gaming industry site

Nintendo NX: The pros and cons of a transforming portable

Price

Early online speculation about pricing for the NX expects it to be cheaper than current consoles, but from what we’ve heard it’s going to be cheaper than even the vast majority expect. This is a machine that is targeting the mass market, and Nintendo certainly plans for it to have a mass market price. Price is one Wii U mistake Nintendo is determined not to repeat. This could be NX's single biggest win.

@Vice this is based on a leak about the dev kit. I hope Ninty has seen the light on unlocked consoles, now we just need them to fix the e-store and online account profiles...
