Heads up to those who want to try the Bulletproof Coffee but don't want to make it yourself, Vida E Cafe's sell them (at least, the one at my work does). My colleague just went to them and asked for a "Bullet Coffee" and they made it. Not sure if they use the proper ingredients, but Vida E is normally very good.

Cool thanks, have had anecdotal evidence of its benefits so may just give it a try. I am suspicious of all these new things that supposedly have amazing effects with no side effects, but I have a friend who swears by it.

Not a fan of the Vida bullet, as much I love Vida. They make theirs just with coconut oil, nothing else.

@Magius I love making bulletproof coffee with Nespresso pods. The Vanilio ones in particular.

Just make a cup of the Nespresso coffee, add a tablespoon of butter and of coconut oil. Blend together (I use a stick blender) until foamy. Drink it while it's hot otherwise it's nasty

@Corrosive You can find almond milk in the section where the long-life is kept. Woolies does their own brand but it's awful. Spar sells a brand called Earth something or another (can never remember it) and it is the best one It is pricey but u don't use a lot

Since we are talking about healthy beverages...
My sister swears by Golden Milk. She is big into CrossFit and weightlifting and has a cup of Golden Milk every day. It’s for excellent anti-inflammatory (sports recovery, general aches, other stuff), blood sugar control (energy), immune and digestion support and a few others benefits. Here is the recipe she follows

Golden Milk:
1 Cup Milk (Coconut or Almond)(can use cows milk too apparently)
1 Cup Water
1 Tsp Turmeric
1 Tsp Cinnamon
1 Tsp Honey
1 Tsp Coconut Oil
1 Tsp Fresh Ginger (grated)
Pinch of Black Pepper
Pinch of Cayenne Pepper

Bring to just before boil and then reduce heat and brew for 5 - 10 minutes. Drink soon after

Once I get hold of that coconut milk Snow mentioned I think I am going to try it for a full week or 2. I am sure that a person could mix the dry ingredients in bulk to save time if needed

Ooh that sounds great Corr! Lots of bug-killing ingredients in that too. Will come in handy during winter.

A lot of those ingredients are in something called a Floo Shot from Kauai.. It's literally a shot glass with lemon juice, ginger, honey, and cayenne pepper. You down it fresh in one go. Be warned - it burns a lot! But it clears your sinuses immediately. I'd recommend chasing it with a smoothie

@Corr Trying the golden milk now! It's really good Spicey - tastes a bit chai-ish. I'm gonna try it with you for a couple of weeks and we can compare notes!

@Snow Cool I only started this morning. Couldn't find any almond or coconut milk. Spar had Rice milk (R80 a litre!) and they had that lactose-free easygest milk, so I am trying the lactose free one for the golden milk. Which Spar do you get the almond milk from? I might mission there one day to try it.

Completely agree with the spicey, chai taste.

I get mine from Pineslopes or Broadacres Spars Woolies have their own brand almond milk and I've seen it at multiple branches so you should have luck there. Its R40 for a litre. Not as nice as the Earth&Co brand but works if you're stuck

So... I have not kept up with the Golden Milk trial that I was doing. Things got pretty damn crazy busy here with work.

@Corr I've had it a few times when I feel I'm getting the sniffles and it seems to have *touch wood* kept the colds away. It is a lot nicer with actual dairy milk but obviously not as healthy, so I've been trying to stick with the almond milk. I got some Almond Breeze from Pick n Pay so gonna try that next.


Speaking of health etc. My Dad had a quadruple bypass on Tuesday morning and by yesterday afternoon he was already up and walking. I'm blown away by what these doctors and surgeons are capable of and what modern medicine can do.

Anybody else been using MCT oil? I have replaced my coconut oil with MCT in my coffee and definitely noticed an extra boost. Then again, I've also been carb-free for almost 3 weeks and that probably has increased my energy levels as well.

Haven't tried MCT oil. Where do you get it from?

How is the carb free going? I remember the first few days being hard and then my energy levels being great after about 3 days.

I quit coffee (again). On week 2 and don't crave it anymore. I realise there are pros and cons to it, but I was serisouly starting depending on it too much and missing my morning cup would make for a cranky day. Not a good sign IMO.

I love being carb-free. Energy levels are amazing and sleeping a lot better. I also find that I don't need energy drinks for when I need to work late at night. Going to be 1 month carb free in a few days

@Snow - I tried the no carb diet. Problem for me was that i didn't have much energy to burn at gym.

@reDDevil Ya I've heard it's tough for frequent gym goers. I just do free weights at home (dumbbells and barbell) but haven't tried cardio on it.
